Summary of Duties:





Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller assumes responsibility for the complete financial reporting function for Perley Health and the Foundation. This includes the tracking and recording of all revenues and expenditures; all internal and external reporting; the implementation and maintenance of internal controls, systems, policies and procedures; responsibility for the operation of the Finance Department; and completion of special projects as required.


Duties and Responsibilities:




Responsibility for the preparation of records and reports relating to the financial administration of the organization. Maintains ongoing control of budgets/actual costs and issue departmental and program reports monthly. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, as required. Responsible for all internal and external reporting of statistical and financial information. Co-ordinate the preparation of all working papers to facilitate the completion of all external audits (Corporation's annual audit, Veterans Affairs Canada audit, G.S.T., P.S.T., W.S.I.B., MOHLTC Annual Reconciliation, Community Services Reports, etc.). Maintain liaison with the Ministry of Health, Veterans Affairs Canada, the Ontario Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for Seniors, and other long-term care facilities and health care providers. As requested, reviews major contracts/agreements prior to corporate approval being given. Implement, control, and audit financial procedures within the Corporation to ensure compliance with government regulations, Health Centre policies, and accounting guidelines, such as the M.I.S. Guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (G.A.A.P.). Develop and implements internal controls, both departmentally and organization-wide, and ensures that they are adhered to. Responsible for the confidential and secure storage of long-term financial records for the Corporation. Participate in the implementation of information systems and computerization for the Corporation. Responsible for the development and/or enhancement of reports or systems for the financial administration of the Corporation. Coordination of the operation of the Corporate Finance Department, which includes payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, general accounting, and financial analysis. Support the co-ordination of activities of the Corporate Finance Department with other departments. Ensure reimbursement by all third parties (i.e. Ministry of Health, Veterans Affairs Canada, Canada Customs and Revenue Agency - G.S.T., etc.). Support the recruitment and hiring of departmental staff and the orientation, training, and development of departmental staff. Complete special projects as requested by the Chief Financial Officer.

Education & Experience:




4-year Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. Professional Accounting Designation. 5 years of progressive Accounting and Finance experience.

Skills & Competencies:




Computer knowledge (Microsoft Office Programs). Interpersonal skills. Presentation skills. Record Management techniques. IT skills (both hardware and software) requiring the ability to be a Super User and trouble shoot systems problems.
