Robert Half has an exciting opening for an ambitious Controller for a reputable company in the Construction/Contractor industry. This leadership role oversees an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the Halton region and is 100% onsite.

The Controller is responsible for the daily supervision and management of the Accounting team. You will oversee the A/P, A/R, general accounting and payroll functions. Reporting to the CFO, you will manage a team of 7 staff. To be considered for this position, you must be a designated CPA with 5 years of experience in a similar Controller position. Preference will be given to candidates with construction/engineering/contracting industry experience. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding and hands-on experience of project accounting/percentage completion and revenue recognition.

Key Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for all accounting operational functions
- Prepare and review monthly and yearly financial statements for all lines of business
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts
- Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget and forecast
- Review of open and completed projects and monthly revenue recognition
- Coordinate activities of external auditors
- Monitor and manage cash flow and prepare reports for senior leadership team
- Assist with other ad-hoc reporting as required
- Review, recommend and implement of accounting processes and internal controls
- Develop and monitor KPI\'s and business performance metrics
- Monthly financial analysis, identifying and managing financial risks
- Conduct financial research, sales forecasting, sales analysis and analysis of overall performance, and manage financial data.
- Supervision and management of the accounting team, including hiring, training, performance management, terminations etc.

Experience/Education
- University Degree in Business/Accounting
- CPA Designation
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a controllership role.
- Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and knowledge of relevant federal, provincial and local requirements
- Construction/engineering/project based accounting knowledge preferred
- Payroll experience is an asset
- In depth computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel
