Position Summary:
As the Controller, you will be a key leader responsible for all accounting operations of the firm. You will play a crucial role in ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting. Your work will directly contribute to the firm's financial health and support informed, strategic decision-making by leadership. This is an onsite position, requiring 5 days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all accounting operations, including the posting of journal entries and the maintenance and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
Reconcile bank statements, billings, cash receipts, and other key transactions.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Prepare cash flow statements and assist with financial forecasting and budgeting processes.
Administer payroll and partner draw distributions.
Manage Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and prepaid expenses.
Handle government remittances and reconciliations, ensuring full compliance.
Maintain and optimize invoicing and AR procedures.
Create and update financial policies and procedures to enhance internal controls.
Qualifications:
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong preference for experience within a law firm or professional services environment.
Proven experience (5+ years) in a senior accounting leadership role, such as Controller or Assistant Controller, with the ability to perform all aspects of the accounting function.
Strong understanding of financial statements and the application of relevant tax laws.
High proficiency in AP, AR, payroll, and related financial processes.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with firm leadership and partners.
Experience with accounting software such as CaseWare, TaxPrep, and QuickBooks (or similar tools).
