Job Description

Our client, a leading importer of mens and womens private label and branded apparel, is looking for an experienced Controller to join their team. Reporting to the President and Chief Accountant, the controller will be responsible for managing and motivating a small team (3), while actively performing accounting duties, anticipating financial and administrative needs and analyzing month end results. This area of responsibility provides support services to Senior Management and to Operations, Sales & Marketing.

Responsibilities:

Manage a team of 3 in accounting, credit & collections, accounts payable and general administration
Preparation and analysis of monthly of financial statements in a timely and comprehensive manner
Review monthly sales tax returns
Review a variety of commission and management fee calculations
Ensure accurate, timely filing of income tax returns and other business-related filings
Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements including banking and government authorities\xe2\x80\x99 filings.
Critical analytical review of month-end results; assessment of general ledger activity ensuring appropriate allocation of revenues and expenses and variance analysis, including gross margin
Gross margin analysis at the brand level
Validation of Inventory Costing
Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
Manage Cash-Flow projections
ERP system and responsible for maintenance, upgrades, and training
Responsible for HR and changes to payroll
Overall responsibility for credit management
Develop and implement process improvements, accounting policies and internal controls
Manage annual financial audit and interim inventory audits
Support operations through preparing various analyses, providing insight into financial performance
Participate in annual planning process

Requirements:

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Accounting or business administration
Minimum of 5 to 7 years of related accounting/finance experience, preferably in apparel industry
Experience with bank compliance and managing banking relationships
Familiarity with CRA and MRQ reporting requirements
Expert proficiency in Excel
Working knowledge of ERP system (Visual, Netsuite, similar)
Proactive, demonstrated ability to work under pressure and against designated deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills \xe2\x80\x93 English and some French required
Exceptional organizational skills with strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks
Strong attention to detail and discretion
