Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance and cost control activities for the Company. This position plays a key role in maintaining the financial health of the business and ensuring accurate project-level cost tracking and reporting. The ideal candidate has a solid background in construction project accounting, understands time and material (T&M) billing models, and can assist the business in developing accurate cost estimates and bid proposals. This position offers a balanced hybrid work arrangement, combining remote work with time in the office and periodic travel to project sites and partner locations across the interior of BC.
Shift:
full-time (40 hours a week) with overtime expected based on business needs.
Travel:
Valid Drivers Licence is required.
Orientation:
Online orientation and site orientation are required to work on the site. Successful candidates must provide Void cheque/direct deposit form, Copy of Driver's Abstract, Copy of Driver's License, and all certifications and training records.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Finance Operations
Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions, including fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, etc.
Approve vendor invoices and ensure timely entry with correct job costing and approvals
Review and approve client invoices with complete supporting documentation, including for time and material contracts
Reconcile all bank and loan accounts
Prepare timely cashflow forecasting to ensure adequate financial resources are available to meet the needs of the business
Review and approve all hourly and salary payroll
Maintain detailed fixed asset continuity schedules and recommend equipment financing arrangements
Support the setup and management of CRA online accounts
Provide required financial information for tax advisors to complete the Company's year-end tax returns
Assist in compiling and organizing documentation for the Company's audit
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and project-level reporting within 30 days of month-end
Complete and file indirect tax returns (GST, PST) monthly
Support the implementation and refinement of financial controls, policies, and procedures
Project Accounting & Cost Management
Oversee job costing and ensure accurate tracking of costs to specific projects
Monitor time and material project costs, identifying variances and communicating with project managers
Maintain ongoing work-on-hand schedules, including prospects and proposals
Work closely with operations to ensure alignment between field activity, project billing, and cost reporting
Maintain clear records of labour, equipment, and material charges to support both internal monitoring and client transparency
Proposal Support & Cost Estimation
Assist the leadership team in preparing bid proposals and tenders, including detailed breakdowns of estimated costs
Collaborate with project managers to gather data on historical costs to improve accuracy of future estimates
Provide financial analysis and insights to support pricing strategies and profitability assessments for new projects
Qualifications
CPA designation required
Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction, industrial services or project-based environments
Proven experience with construction project accounting and job costing
Strong knowledge of time and material billing and reporting practices
Knowledge of payroll, union agreements and group benefit plans
Familiarity with the preparation of bid proposals and detailed cost estimates
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with Explorer Eclipse project accounting system is a strong asset
Knowledge of Canadian tax regulations including GST/PST
Excellent attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with project managers, vendors, and executive leadership
