About the Opportunity


Our client, a real estate development and construction company based in London, Ontario, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting function and provide strategic financial leadership across multiple residential development projects.

Reporting directly to the Owner, the Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of financial reporting, cash flow, and compliance, while providing hands-on support in the daily operations of an active construction and property development business. This role is ideal for a CPA with strong construction, financing, and HST expertise who thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities



Financial Leadership and Reporting

Responsible for all accounting/bookkeeping and financial operations, including general ledger, project costing, and financial statement preparation. Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE. Manage cash flow planning, forecasting, and banking relationships. Prepare financial submissions reports and draw packages for lenders.
Construction and Development Accounting

Coordinate financial aspects of new construction projects, including mortgage financing, draw schedules, and cost tracking. Support the Owner in managing permit applications, progress billings, and financing documentation. Manage HST self-supply rules for new builds, ensuring full compliance with CRA requirements.
Compliance and Operations

Handle payroll, remittances, and benefits administration. Prepare and submit HST, WSIB, and corporate tax filings in collaboration with external accountants. Respond to CRA queries and ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation. Responsible for bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, and vendor payments using QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Strategic and Administrative Support

Collaborate closely with ownership on business planning, project budgeting, and financing strategies. Maintain accurate and organized financial records for all entities and projects. Provide financial insight and analysis to support strategic decision-making. Supervise and support a small accounting and administrative team, fostering accuracy and accountability.

Qualifications and Experience



CPA designation required. Minimum 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a controller or senior finance role. Proven background in construction, real estate development, or property management industries. Strong understanding of mortgage financing, draw management, and HST self-supply rules. Proficient with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work directly with ownership and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Work Schedule and Environment



Full-time, on-site position based in London, Ontario. Typical hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Collaborative office environment working directly with ownership and project teams.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
