Controller



Job Summary




The Controller plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of all accounting operations at Reko International Group Inc. This position oversees day-to-day financial administration, maintains robust internal controls, and ensures the timely and accurate flow of financial data to support corporate reporting, planning, and decision making. Oversees tax compliance and tax accounting, working closely with external advisors to ensure accurate tax reporting and optimized, compliant tax positions.


Working closely with the Director of Finance and CFO, the Controller leads the accounting team in producing accurate financial information, managing audits, and continuously improving financial systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities



Financial Operations & Data Integrity



Oversee all daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger maintenance. Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings. Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation including review of payroll processing and related entries, as needed Maintain accounting policies and procedures that ensure compliance with external and internal standards. Coordinate intercompany transactions and reconciliations across business units. Support the Director of Finance with data preparation for financial analysis, variance explanations, and management reporting.

Financial Reporting & Compliance



Oversee the preparation of internal management reports. Support the Director of Finance with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, Board reports, and audit documentation. Manage annual external audit coordination, ensuring timely completion of requests and deliverables. Maintain compliance with all government reporting requirements, including HST, WSIB, and other statutory filings, in collaboration with Payroll and HR as appropriate. Ensure tax-related balances and disclosures (current and deferred tax, income tax expense, HST) are accurately reflected in internal and external financial reporting.

Income Tax Compliance & Provisions



Oversee all corporate tax compliance activities, ensuring the accurate and timely filing of income tax, HST and other indirect tax returns. Own the preparation and review of annual and quarterly tax provisions, including deferred tax calculations and related disclosures under IFRS. Coordinate with external tax advisors on tax filings, tax planning initiatives, transfer pricing and other advisory projects, ensuring recommendations are appropriately evaluated and implemented. Maintain accurate tax accounts and reconciliations, ensuring differences are identified, investigated and resolved on a timely basis. Monitor changes in relevant tax legislation and assess the impact on the company's tax position, processes and controls.

Budgeting & Forecasting Support



Collaborate with the Director of Finance to gather, validate, and consolidate budgets and forecasts. Provide accurate and timely financial data to support cash flow forecasting, cost analysis, and financial modelling. Identify report trends, variances, and opportunities for cost control and process improvement.

Internal Controls & Systems



Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting. Lead process reviews and implement efficiencies in data collection, reporting, and automation. Managing the ERP accounting modules, ensuring data integrity and system optimization. Support continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with IT, Finance, and Operations teams. Proactively incorporate technology and AI solutions into day-to-day accounting processes to drive efficiency, reduce manual work, and enhance the quality and timeliness of financial information.

Team Leadership



Supervise and mentor the accounting team, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Oversee workload allocation, performance, and training to ensure accurate, timely work and professional growth. Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and collaboration within the finance team.

Qualifications



CPA designation preferred. Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or managerial responsibilities. Strong understanding of IFRS, internal controls, and audit processes. Experience with manufacturing cost accounting, job costing, and ERP systems. Experience with corporate and indirect tax compliance, including tax provisions and working with external tax advisors is strongly preferred. Advances proficiency in Excel and financial data analysis. Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to leverage technology and automation (e.g. ERP tools, AI-assisted analytics, workflow automation) to improve accounting processes and reporting.
