The Controller ensures the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the company's financial operations. This role oversees day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, payroll, internal controls, and ERP integrity. The Controller leads the finance team, supports operational decision-making, and ensures compliance with all accounting and regulatory requirements. This is an operational leadership role that supports the CFO with financial analysis and execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Accounting
Lead general ledger management, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close.
Prepare accurate, timely financial statements and internal reporting packages.
Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting records and ensure data accuracy.
Finance Operations Leadership
Oversee daily activities of the finance and administrative team.
Provide financial insights to operational leaders; support budgeting and forecasting led by the CFO.
Manage AP/AR oversight, ensuring effective cash flow and escalation support.
Payroll, Benefits & Compliance
Oversee payroll, benefits administration, ROEs, and annual filings (e.g., T4s).
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and audit readiness.
Partner with HR on payroll and benefits cost reporting.
ERP & Systems
Ensure ERP data accuracy and effective use across finance.
Improve workflows, controls, and reporting within the finance modules.
Work with IT on finance-related system issues (CFO owns ERP strategy).
Inventory & Cost Accounting
Support inventory accuracy, costing, and valuation in collaboration with operations.
Lead inventory counts with collaboration from production team.
Conduct cost analysis and identify efficiency or accuracy improvements.
Internal Controls & Risk Management
Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and support financial integrity.
Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Assist the CFO with audit documentation and compliance requirements.
Rebates & Financial Programs
Administer rebate and incentive programs with accuracy and compliance.
Support the CFO with analysis for external claims and government-funded programs.
General Support
Provide cross-functional support as needed in a family-owned, fast-paced environment.
Assist other departments during peak operational periods.
Perform other duties as required to support overall business needs in a small-medium-sized, family-owned company setting.

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
CPA designation required.
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, at least 4 years at the senior level.
Proven leadership experience.
Previous exposure to payroll, benefits and human resources is preferred.
In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Advanced Excel skills, ERP experience required. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Business Central, and SAP is an asset.
Working Conditions
This position is primarily based in an office environment, with occasional minimal exposure to our manufacturing facility. The role involves extended periods of computer-based work, including sitting and screen use. As part of a dynamic, mid-sized family-run business, there may be periodic requirements to support other departments--such as Shipping and Retail--during peak operational periods to ensure seamless business continuity. The standard work schedule is Monday to Friday; however, some flexibility may be required occasionally to accommodate business needs.
