Our client is looking for an experience and detail-oriented Controller to join their team in Edmonton. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a thorough understanding of accounting principles, experience in cost analysis within a manufacturing environment, and leadership in managing the Accounting and Payroll team.Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Manage the Accounting and Payroll department, providing leadership, guidance, and support.
  • Mentor and coach finance team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the Finance team.
  • Identify and nurture talent within the team, supporting succession planning initiatives to ensure continuity and organizational resilience.
  • Develop and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, inventory, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
  • Conduct cost analysis to optimize manufacturing processes, materials, and labor costs.
  • Calculate and analyze cost of goods sold (COGS) and gross margin to identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather and analyze relevant data to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present periodic financial reports to senior management, highlighting key performance indicators, variances, and trends.
  • Conduct financial modeling and scenario analysis to evaluate the financial impact of new product lines and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulatory requirements, industry regulations, and professional accounting standards.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate the completion of annual audits and reviews.
  • Develop internal control guidelines, policies, and procedures for budget accounting, cash and credit management, administration, and other activities.
  • Make recommendations for adjustments to financial policies and procedures to be in line with current accounting professional standards.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making and business planning.
  • Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities and provide financial analysis to assess their viability and potential return on investment.
Your strengths include:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial management role, preferably within the manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and experience managing cost of goods sold.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; experience with Traverse, Ceridian, and/or DayForce would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and integrity.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with a focus on coaching and developing team members.
