Stern Cohen is conducting a search for a Controller on behalf of a client.

Position Overview

The Controller will oversee all financial operations and provide strategic insights to support business growth and operational excellence. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced, inventory and distribution-focused environment. You will manage the full accounting cycle and work closely with senior leadership to enhance financial performance and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely reporting. Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes. Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance reports. Implement and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures. Manage cash flow, working capital, and inventory-related financial oversight. Support pricing, costing, and margin analysis to drive profitability. Partner with operations to understand inventory movement, purchasing trends, and cost drivers. Coordinate year-end audits and liaise with external auditors, banks, and tax advisors. Oversee payroll, AP/AR, and general ledger activities. Provide strategic recommendations to senior management on financial planning and performance.

Qualifications

6+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with 2+ years in a leadership role. Experience in inventory, distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, or related industries strongly preferred. Strong understanding of inventory costing, supply chain processes, and margin analysis. Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with ERP systems Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
