Job Summary:



The controller is an integral member of the finance team, overseeing the daily financial operations and contributing to process improvement and operational decision making. The controller is responsible for all financial accounting, reporting, and budgeting for the organization and ensures that all financial and accounting functions comply with IFRS. The controller will communicate with the parent company to ensure reliable and accurate reporting.

Main Responsibilities / Tasks:



This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Financial:



Monthly reconciliation and preparation/review of working paper files, monitoring general ledger activities and updating the chart of accounts Establish and maintain robust internal controls Consolidation and analysis of monthly financial results, preparation of reports, and oversight of financial statements and documents, ensuring corporate deadlines are met Preparation of monthly submissions to external lenders on floorplan financing Analyze inventory, review inventory cycle counting process, lead periodic physical inventory counts Analysis of foreign exchange, and providing recommendations on fx hedging strategies Development of key performance indicators (KPI's) for distribution to General Managers and CEO Presenting financial reporting to CEO and parent company Manage/prepare all tax related payments and reconciliations (GST, PST, Corporate and Provincial Tax) Liaison with external accountant on year end review and tax preparation

Budgeting and Planning:



In cooperation with the parent company, CEO and General Managers, prepare annual budgets for all dealerships within the organization, establish key performance metrices, and monitor progress

Involvement in annual strategic planning

Cash flow planning including maintenance of corporate model

Monitoring credit facilities

Leadership:



Maintain continuous communication with the executive leadership team, parent company and General Managers actively seeking suggestions to improve financial and accounting processes to achieve organizational goals

Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the company's core values as it pertains to interactions with customers, colleagues, and vendors

Oversee and mentor finance team

Third Parties:



Coordination of vehicle insurance with insurance providers

Oversee review conducted by external accountants and ensure all pre-review documentation is prepared in a timely manner

Review of each dealership's financial statements and tax returns for final sign-off

Evaluation of annual term sheets with external lenders

Annual renewal review of corporate insurance and benefits

Legal Compliance:



Review of all material contracts to ensure compliance with embedded terms and covenants

In conjunction with company legal, ensure resolutions and minutes are updated annually

Ensuring annual reports for parent company are correctly signed off and filed by legal counsel and board.

Job Requirements



Competencies and Qualifications:



Minimum of 5 years of previous experience in a controllership or VP finance role

CPA Designation is required

Previous accounting/auditing experience from Big 4 or large national accounting firm (BDO/DGT/MNP)

Must have strong financial management and business acumen

Extensive knowledge of accounting and finance functions working with at minimum a medium sized organization

Demonstrated expertise in reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning for financial growth

Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well with individuals inside and outside of the organization

Proven ability in mentoring and leading individuals at a senior level

Organizational and attention to detail skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Experience in CDK-Intellidealer is considered an asset.

Highly proficient in Microsoft office suite, including advanced Excel skills

Strong ethical standards, professionalism, and integrity with the ability to adhere to a high level of discretion and confidentiality.

Agriculture and/or Dealership experience would be considered an asset.

Physical Requirements:



Physical demands for this role are moderate, consisting primarily of sitting, standing, and walking

Ability to commute/relocate/travel:



The position can be based out of Calgary or High River with occasional travel to dealership locations.
