As CREATE. continues to evolve and grow, we are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee the financial management of the group of companies within CREATE. As part of the leadership team, the Controller will support strategic planning to support company expansion and manage all aspects of the Finance department; Day to day responsibilities of the Project Accountant include: Leadership

  • Utilize understanding of \xe2\x80\x98best practice\' to forecast and proactively address needs and situations to ensure streamlined operations
  • Establish and implement policies, processes and procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy of all information within the finance department
  • Proactively contributes to the development of the culture within the Finance group in alignment with the overall company culture
  • Provide direction and guidance to accounting team members, effectively contribute to performance of the Finance team providing regular positive and constructive feedback to team members to support high performance
  • Act as main liaison between Finance and Operations
  • Promote continuous improvements in processes and reporting; monitor and report on trends that affect the company\'s financial decisions and identify / support opportunities for optimization / enhancement, inefficiencies and cost savings
Financial Analysis
  • Support decision-making on prospective projects by coordinating and developing financial models
  • Develop project forecasts and budgets
  • Gather, organize and interpret benchmark performance metrics for company, including analysis of forecasted and actual results
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure information is gathered in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
  • Monitor project financials, leasing and construction costing activities, provide regular updates and report discrepancies in forecasted and actual budgets to project manager
  • Review business terms for key contracts and ensure they align with the overall corporate strategy and business goals
  • Provide analytical support to executives on ad-hoc projects and reports
Finance and Accounting
  • Manage payroll functions
  • Preparing monthly and annual financial statements for each company in the group
  • Reconciliation of intercompany transactions between each company in the group
  • Proactive planning with executives regarding both corporate and personal tax treatment of transactions
  • Preparation and filing of all CRA requirements for each of the companies (GST, Corporate tax instalments/payments etc.)
  • Asset reporting and tracking
  • Prepare and manage company budgets and cash flow reconciliations for review and discussion with executives
  • Preparing year end Management reporting
  • Prepare weekly management reports for Project Managers
  • Maintain subsequent job changes resulting from client changes and changes in scope of work
  • Ensure matching of purchase orders and invoices
  • Ensure entry of purchase orders and costs, ensuring that accounting transactions are recorded accurately
  • Processing of payments for supplier invoices and reconciliation of supplier accounts
  • Preparation of monthly draw applications
  • Other billings, prepare miscellaneous and charge-back invoices
  • Set-up and monitoring of Subcontractors WCB and statutory declarations

  • A Canadian CPA designation
  • At least 5 years accounting experience in construction and real estate/property management
  • At least 5 years accounting experience in commercial construction
  • At least 3 years of previous financial/business analysis role (preferred)
  • At least 2 years of previous experience preparing business plans and development project pro forma modeling (preferred)
  • At least 2 years\' experience using construction related accounting software and tools (ProCore/Sage/Quickbooks/Timberscan/Autodesk/IPM)
  • Demonstrated experience in financial analysis and modeling skills (including intermediate to advanced Excel skills; intermediate Word, intermediate PowerPoint)
  • Previous experience in job cost accounting and cost analysis
  • Confidence in working with detailed and complex information and making independent decisions on financial matters
  • A demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize projects, and you are proactive and self-motivated
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to effectively liaise with external and internal clients as well as demonstrate strong report-writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally
