• This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
As part of the Manufacturing East Process Automation Team, the Control Systems Specialist will provide support for all Manufacturing East (ME) sites. This support will include application development and deployment, patching and updating of Windows based systems, and the planning and deployment of Operating Technology hardware. This role will require a forward-thinking mindset to identify problems and risks to Operations and develop mitigation strategies before the problems and risks are realized.
Reporting directly to the ME Process Automation Team Leader, this role also interacts directly with Operations, Control Engineers and Technologists, Lab Technicians, and IT resources, and Project Managers.
You Will Use Your Expertise To:
• Support a 365-day, 24-hour operation, to maintain safe, reliable, and competitive operations.
• Manage Operational Technology (OT) hardware lifecycle.
• Work within a team environment to solve problems supporting plant Operations.
• Act as a liaison between IT and Operations.
• Maintain and upgrade servers for Pavilion Advanced Process Control (APC).
• Support Alarm & Event Management Server (Dynamo).
• Maintain and upgrade servers for the AspenTech IP.21 Historian as well as supporting the associated applications (IP21, Process Explorer, CIMIO, etc.).
• Provide support for multiple Process Automation/Operations OPC interfaces.
• Coordinate with IT and Process Automation to deliver systems projects in the Units.
• Create and maintain SQLplus/FORTRAN/Batch/PowerShell/VB scripts with documentation for custom applications.
• Ensure Automation Networks are meeting NOVA best practices for Security.
• Maintain web-based operations applications.
• Consult on design and implementation of process automation networks.
• Work with automation practitioners on applying patches and updates for process automation OT hardware.
What We Are Looking For:
• B.Sc. in Computer Science / Computer Engineering or equivalent OR 2-year technical school diploma with 8+ years of related experience OR 10+ years combination of post-secondary technical education and related experience OR 10+ years of progressive experience in a manufacturing discipline or equivalent technology environment.
• Minimum of five years of experience supporting computer applications, networks and/or hardware.
• Experience working within a manufacturing facility would be an asset but not required.
• Understanding of Relational Database Structures (Primarily Microsoft MSSQL) and at minimum a basic understanding of the Structured Query Language (SQL).
• Strong working knowledge of the Windows Server Operating Systems.
• Scripting experience (VBScript, PowerShell, etc.) or coding ability.
• Experience supporting and implementing Open Platform Communications (OPC).
• Networking and Firewall Security knowledge.
• Experience with Virtualization (VMWare) is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results and proven organizational skills.

Additional Information:
• Relocation will be considered for this position
• Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
• Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
• Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
• The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver's license
