6500 Control Plane Software Developer

This is an entry level position.

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

The 6500 is the flagship product of Ciena's Packet Optical Transport Portfolio. Optical networks continue to aggressively move towards Layer 0/1/2 converged infrastructures. As part of this more Data Networking and services are available on 6500 products. Join the 6500 team delivering these Optical Ethernet Network solutions:

• Hybrid Layer 0/1/2/3 switching (OTN / Ethernet / MPLS / Routing / Segment Routing / Yang / L3VPN / and others)

Note, this work term is for an 8+ month duration starting in January 2020. You must be available for full-time employment by this date.

RESPONSABILITIES

• Develop applications which extend the capabilities of the 6500 system/platform
• Development of embedded, real-time software for telecommunications systems
• Coding and testing of software
• Support of testing activities in the release where feature is delivered

GENERAL ACTIVITIES

• The activities for this position will involve working as part of a design team developing on-switch applications to support Optical/Ethernet based initiatives
• Working closely with Senior Designers who will provide mentoring and coaching
• Collaborating with other design and test support teams
• Problem Solving and analysis
• Contributing to your team
• Innovation

• Scripting
• Embedded C programming
• Python Programming
• 2nd - 3rd year Engineering or Computer Science, preferably with prior co-op experience in related fields.

SKILLS WHICH ARE AN ASSET

• C, C++/Python programming language experience
• Familiarity with datacom & telecom concepts such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, MPLS. Routing Protocols

• Low-level Real-Time Software/Firmware Development
• Ability to understand CPU Hardware architectures
• Linux, VxWorks OS
• Linux as a software development environment
• Exposure to CLI, TL1, SNMP, NETCONF, REST, gRPC.
• Design and development tools such as: Git, Eclipse, JIRA, Confluence, GDB, Yocto
• YANG modeling language and toolchains
• Scripting experience, Go, BASH
• Automation and Test
