Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the temporary, full-time (up to 12 months) position of Contract Supervisor (Parks Capital Projects) in the Strategic Planning & Design division of Parks & Recreation. The Contract Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of parks capital outdoor recreation construction projects. These projects may include the construction or reconstruction of playing fields, sport courts, playgrounds, park upgrades (retaining walls, parking lots, trails, walkways, bridges, fencing) and other Park infrastructure improvements.

The Contract Supervisor ensures the projects are built to the design and quality control objectives of the contract specifications and are constructed and delivered safely, within the approved budget and on schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

  • \xe2\x80\x8b\xe2\x80\x8b\xe2\x80\x8bA Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years\' experience of field construction inspection of which a minimum of 3 years of experience within a municipal construction environment would be an asset.
  • Must have valid N.S. driver\'s license and own and be willing to use personal vehicle during working hours, with payment in accordance with the Halifax Regional Municipality\'s Local Travel Policy.
Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of municipal and Park guidelines and specifications.
  • Knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental regulations, recognized construction practices, and other applicable municipal, provincial and federal legislation.
  • Sound knowledge of design and construction principles and practices of parks and open spaces.
  • Proficient in estimating, measuring and recording quantities of materials.
  • Ability to prepare accurate cost estimates and develop and monitor project budgets.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian Certified Playground Inspector Training, HRM Contract and Specifications for Municipal Services, N.S. Road Builders Standard Specifications for Municipal Services, HRM Municipal Service Systems Design Guidelines, and general municipal engineering construction practices and procedures.
  • General understanding of HRMs organizational structure and the specific working relationship between Parks Capital Projects and other business units.
  • Knowledge of recreational service delivery and its benefits, trends and issues which impact service delivery.
  • Proficient in daily recording of construction and service-related activities in clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, tender documents and specifications.
  • Proficient in applications of Excel, Word, SAP reports and Outlook.

WORK STATUS: Temporary, full-time (up to 12 months)

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm for 35 hours per week

SALARY: NU05 on the non-union salary scale; $61,360-$84,370.

WORK LOCATION: 2nd Floor - 88 Alderney Drive, Dartmouth (Ferry Terminal)
