This is a
one-year contract position
with the possibility of extension.
The Contract Field Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating and maintaining facility equipment while collaborating as part of a high-performing team. This role requires proficiency in one or more areas of the processing facility and a commitment to operational excellence.
The successful candidate will support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities, challenging existing processes, and contributing to operational goals. Acting as a role model, the Contract Operator will uphold clent's core values, promote a strong safety culture, and ensure the health and well-being of all employees through strict adherence to safety policies and client's Safety Commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain pipeline facilities, LACT sites, terminals, and field locations
Monitor and troubleshoot area-specific equipment to optimize performance and meet production targets
Perform condition monitoring, sampling, and testing; document and act on results
Conduct operational rounds and maintain accurate electronic log entries
Prepare equipment for maintenance using LOTO procedures and support planned work schedules
Perform walkarounds, informal LOTO checks, and HSE safety audits
Complete housekeeping activities and corrective actions as required
Conduct thorough handover meetings between shifts
Compliance and Documentation
Understand and adhere to regulatory and operating approvals for facility operations
Manage Scala data inputs, truck ticket tracking, and maintain communication with customers and dispatch
Monitor truck scales for accuracy and maintain facility-specific documentation, including waste approvals and tickets
Technical Support and Leadership
Provide mentorship, on-the-job training, and assessments for new employees
Assist with equipment repairs and maintenance activities
Initiate work notifications for maintenance to ensure safe operations
Perform product sampling and testing (density, temperature, BS&W)
Support continuous improvement by identifying safe, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions
Provide technical input for planning and scheduling work
Review and update existing procedures; develop site-specific procedures and Task Hazard Analyses (THAs) as needed
Qualifications
Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
High attention to detail with proven troubleshooting ability
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to work shift schedules, including weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations
Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage positively with local communities and internal teams
Results-oriented and accountable
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Additional Position Requirements
Location: Cold Lake (will accept candidates within proximity of Cold Lake or Bonnyville)
7 days on, 7 days off work schedule
There will be some overtime, with preapproval from the lead
On-call during shift, vacation coverage, and support when required
Travel required to home base of Cold Lake Terminal, Midpoint, and Lloydminster CPL
Overall travel may vary from Cold Lake to Wainwright
Rate as per attached Fuel Surcharge
Pay Rate
T4:
$39 to $49 per hour plus $25 per hour truck rate
IC:
$42 to $57 per hour plus $25 per hour truck rate
Other Benefits
If T4, overtime eligible at 1.5 times
$25 per hour truck rate will be paid
Fuel surcharge will be paid as per company guidance
