Position Summary


VCC (Vancouver Community College) Continuing Studies is seeking instructors with industry and teaching experience to teach in the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician program area. Successful candidates will be offered a term contract position, with opportunities for continued instructional assignments. This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students' progress, and develops lesson plans/syllabi. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment, and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College's policies and procedures and for participating in MDRT department meetings.


Duties & Responsibilities


Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, case studies, and independent or group projects. Effectively communicate with students using both visual techniques and verbal communication. Prepares, administers and marks assignments and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students' progress. Provides guidance and detailed feedback on students' progress. Creates a positive learning environment by consistently demonstrating preparedness for class, by motivating students to accomplish educational and personal goals and by providing the opportunity to receive and act on student feedback. Maintains an effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials and supplies. Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.



Qualifications


Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Certificate from a recognized public post-secondary institution. CSA Group Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Minimum 3-5 years of recent Medical Device Reprocessing Technician experience in a Canadian hospital setting Minimum 3 years of recent experience in teaching and/or mentoring adult learners in the following areas: + Decontamination
+ Assembly
+ Sterilization
+ Endoscopes
+ Storage and Distribution
Strong team, organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to effectively relate to a diverse adult student body and relay information/instruction clearly and concisely. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and student success. High degree of proficiency by keeping up with present day standards in the profession. Proven commitment to professional development, including plans to complete the PID Program within an appropriate time frame.



Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE


$55 to $65 per hour
