The Engineering Sampler program introduces students in Grades 10-12 to the field of engineering, helping them develop foundational skills. The
Mechanical Engineering Sampler Instructor
is responsible for providing an engaging overview of the mechanical engineering discipline based on the assigned curriculum. Through a blend of lectures, hands-on projects, and real-world applications, the instructor will lead students through concepts that inform the design, creation, and operation of mechanical systems. Key topics include forces, material properties, fluid power, CAD design, 3D printing, and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth education, knowledgeable in mechanical engineering, and able to introduce students to the potential educational and career pathways in the industry.
Functions and Duties
Deliver the 25-hour Mechanical Engineering module for an Engineering Sampler Program offered to students in Grades 10-12.
Guide and support learners in applying concepts and building technical skills.
Assesses participant progress, provide constructive feedback, input student assessments in a timely manner, and support student progress throughout the program.
Prepare and maintain course materials, course outlines, lesson plans, instructional aids, assignments, exams, and attendance records
Collaborate with the Program Coordinator and other instructors to ensure cohesive program delivery. Foster open communication to support student success and maintain alignment with institutional goals.
Education and Experience
Relevant certificate, diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering; combination of education and experience may be considered
Proven experience in the Mechanical Engineering industry, with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, including Fluid Power, Robotics, and CAD, is an asset.
Previous teaching or training experience with youth is an asset.
A clear, current Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check
Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of 3D printers and relevant software
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire youth learners
Proficiency in preparing learning activities and resources, classroom management, and adapting teaching methods to diverse learning styles.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and professional learning environment.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure effective program delivery and student success.
