Your opportunity:

Under direct supervision of the Research Ethics Analyst and general supervision of the Director, Human Research Ethics, the Continuing Ethics Review Specialist is responsible for the efficient and effective administration of Continuing Ethics Review (CER) procedures and policies in support of the activities of the Human Research Ethics Unit.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing and determining if Continuing Ethics Review submissions meet approval criteria
  • Determining when to hold funding linked to lapsed protocols and releasing once approvals are received
  • Conducting Post-Approval Review (PAR) visits to ensure adherence to Research Ethics Board approved protocols
  • Writing reports on PAR visit findings
  • Disseminating information regarding policies and guidelines to researchers
  • Writing and summarizing research comments on individual submissions
  • Creating and updating records
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a health science or social science discipline, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum (4) four years of relevant experience in human research ethics or in conducting human research
  • Experience using online review systems
  • Experience using Administrative Management Systems (AMS) or equivalent
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply policies and procedural guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and provide support to diverse stakeholders including faculty researchers, students and research staff
  • Strong collaborative approach and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; ability to compile reports and large amounts of information; and to take committee/meeting minutes
  • Superior attention to detail, and accuracy in reviewing documents, and in entering data; demonstrated data review skills
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office Suite (O365), Adobe Acrobat and iAuditor
  • Proven ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Previous experience or knowledge of Research Ethics Boards and/or human research preferred
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements, standards, issues related to the research environment and/or ethics, human ethics preferred .
