Summary:
The Community Engagement Specialist supports the Consultation team in the Treaties, Lands and Environment Department, helping review proposed projects for potential impacts on Chippewas of the Thames First Nation (COTTFN) rights and advancing jurisdiction within the Treaty and Traditional Territory. This entry-level role assists coordinators with responding to project notices, organizing community engagement sessions, and maintaining the Community Knowledge Keeper database.
Candidates will be strong multitaskers who work well independently and in a team. An OSSD is required (college/university an asset), with desirable experience in database management, communications, or project coordination. On the job training provided.
Responsibilities:
Screen incoming project notifications using the assessment matrix; flag level of concern and key issues for Consultation Coordinators.
Draft and coordinate responses to proponents as assigned.
Prepare and track invoices for consultants/proponents in alignment with internal processes.
Attend meetings with proponents alongside Consultation Coordinators (virtual, on-site, or off-site; occasional evening/out-of-town).
Present information at meetings as needed, including the Wiindmaagewin Consultation Protocol.
Record, finalize, and file accurate meeting minutes and action items.
Digitize, upload, and index reports, notifications, and studies in the Community Knowledge Keeper (CKK) database.
Maintain and update CKK records (e.g., meetings, emails, decisions) and ensure data quality/consistency.
Support community engagement: plan, promote, and host events; coordinate logistics (space, catering) and develop materials (flyers, newsletter content); assist with broader department events as needed.
Support the Archaeology Field Liaison (AFL) program: organize callouts, coordinate scheduling, handle timesheets/invoices, assist with AFL training logistics, and review archaeology reports as requested.
Qualifications:
High school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
Able to travel on- and off-reserve within the Nation's Treaty/Traditional Territory to attend engagements (occasional evenings).
Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook); comfortable with Adobe Acrobat and databases.
Strong organization: able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Works independently and collaboratively with a team.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Valid Class G driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
College diploma or university degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications/marketing, public administration, Indigenous studies).
Experience with database management or mapping/GIS (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
