Join the Indigenous Consultation and Partnerships Branch at the Ministry of Energy and Mines. In this role, you will lead and support initiatives that uphold the Crown's Duty to Consult and foster meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities.
You'll be part of a small, closely connected team that collaborates across units, branches, and ministries. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful work while building strong networks across government.
As part of the team, you will:
lead and support consultation on project teams for mine development
provide strategic advice on Indigenous relations, policies, and programs and to support issues resolution
research treaties rights and cultural values to inform policy, legislative and operational responses
develop reports and present policy options to senior leadership
collaborate across ministries and jurisdictions to improve consultation policies and practices
Note:
This position involves some travel to remote communities that are not accessible by public transit.

lead Indigenous engagement and consultation strategies
provide consultation advice to regulators and management, including identifying potentially impacted Indigenous communities related to mineral resource activity
deliver training to support compliance with the Duty to Consult

You have:
practical/operational experience with Ontario's Indigenous communities and organizations
knowledge of Aboriginal and treaty rights and the Crown's Duty to Consult
understanding of key concepts and principles for engaging and consulting with Indigenous communities
awareness of cultural and systemic barriers to engagement

You have:
experience managing large-scale projects, policy, and program initiatives
You can:
provide expert guidance on policy implementation
champion project management best practices
deliver results from concept to completion

Research and analysis
You can:
conduct independent research on Aboriginal and treaty rights and history
apply advanced research methodologies and analysis techniques
assess and address issues affecting Indigenous people
interpret legislation and policy frameworks such as the Mining Act
develop evidence-based recommendations for decision-makers

You have:
interpersonal skills to build trust with Indigenous communities, organizations, colleagues, and stakeholders
oral and written communication skills to lead and document consultations and prepare clear, strategic materials
political acuity to navigate sensitive discussions and provide expert advice
