We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to oversee and enforce safety protocols on our 49-unit mixed-use condominium project in Cook Street Village, Victoria. The CSO will be responsible for ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and company safety policies, promoting a culture of safety on-site, and minimizing workplace hazards.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Safety Management
Implement and enforce the project's Health & Safety Plan in compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
Conduct daily site safety inspections, identifying and mitigating hazards to ensure a safe work environment.
Oversee site-specific safety orientations for new workers, subcontractors, and visitors.
Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce compliance.
Monitor high-risk activities such as working at heights, confined spaces, and heavy equipment operations.
Incident Prevention & Response
Conduct regular Toolbox Talks and safety meetings to promote awareness and education.
Investigate accidents, near-misses, and safety violations, providing detailed reports with corrective actions.
Administer first aid as required and coordinate emergency response procedures.
Work with site supervisors and subcontractors to proactively reduce safety risks.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
Ensure all WorkSafeBC documentation, permits, and reports are up to date and accessible.
Maintain safety records, inspections, and training logs for site personnel.
Assist in developing safe work procedures and site-specific safety plans.
Ensure compliance with WHMIS and hazardous material handling regulations.
Collaboration & Training
Work closely with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager, and subcontractors to integrate safety into daily operations.
Provide training and coaching to workers on best safety practices and regulatory updates.
Act as a resource for employees regarding safety concerns, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
Certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designation (mandatory).
3+ years of experience in construction site safety, preferably in residential or mixed-use developments.
Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, BC Building Code, and safety best practices.
First Aid Level 2 or higher (Occupational First Aid preferred).
Experience conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, and accident investigations.
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in safety software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Valid Class 5 Driver's License with reliable transportation to the Victoria project site.

Pay: $32.00-$37.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
