Construction Labourer \xe2\x80\x93 With Weekly Travel throughout the Maritimes Expected The Opportunity Reporting to the Lead Foreman or Carpenter, the Construction Labourer is responsible for assisting in building erecting, repairing, constructing forms, and structures made from wood, steel, concrete, and other construction materials as needed for the completion of various construction projects. He/she is responsible for the tidiness and cleanliness of the worksite and the site trailers, to ensure the workplace is organized, and free of hazards. This position requires weekly travel throughout the Maritime Provinces. WHAT WE OFFER

RESPONSIBILITIES General Be a strong advocate for Sealand\xe2\x80\x99s Health and Safety Program. Specifically:
  • Ensure a safe working environment. Report unsafe working conditions and near misses when applicable.
  • Follow and champion all safety procedures and policies.
  • Demonstrate good housekeeping habits to ensure a neat, safe, and non-cluttered workplace.
  • Be responsible for the cleanliness and organization of the worksite including the site trailers.
  • Complete, documents, and submit daily, all safety documentation as requested.
  • Always use proper personal protective equipment and apparel on the worksite.
Duties:
  • Follow directions and perform tasks as directed by Carpenter or Lead Foreman.
  • Responsible for keeping worksite, including all trailers, clean and safe. Ensure project sites are clean, organized, and free of hazards. At the end of each day ensure site is clean, tidy, tools and equipment stored and locked in appropriate sea cans.
  • Assist Carpenter with measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling, and joining materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
  • Assist with building foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, erect insulated metal panels, erect walls, install insulation, vapor barrier, and roof systems.
  • Assist with fitting and installing trim items, such as doors, stairs, molding, and hardware.
  • Assist with concrete formwork and understand the basics of concrete slab construction.
  • Perform basic carpentry tasks.
  • Capable of digging trenches, and compacting earth.
  • Load and unload construction materials and move around the worksite.

  • Be responsible and take care for any company equipment assigned to you including third party rentals. The condition of company equipment says a lot about who we are, and the core values SBG believes in.
  • Take ownership for your success at SBG. Complete time sheets with appropriate detail, seek approval of your hours worked, and submit timely meeting company deadlines.
  • Capable of operating, maintaining and occasionally repairing power tools, hand tools, and other tools and machinery.
HARD SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Basic carpentry skills.
  • High school graduation.
  • Prior general laborer construction experience.
  • Capable of lifting at least 50lbs.
  • Physically fit and able to work on your feet 8-10 hours per day. You need physical stamina that allows you lift, climb, stand, or bend for long periods of time.
  • Eye hand coordination. The ability to do activities that require simultaneously the use of hands and eyes.
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license with a clean abstract.
  • Qualified and capable of operating construction machinery.
