Construction Estimator

Job Description

Cranston Master Builder is a residential construction company, looking for a Construction Estimator to join our growing team for Edmonton and the surrounding communities.

Objectives



Obtain accurate and competitive quotes and estimates from trades and suppliers for all phases of new construction projects. Reduce overall construction costs and improve operational efficiency and cost management through consistent auditing and cost tracking. Maintain budget integrity throughout the project lifecycle with ongoing cost monitoring and variance analysis. Support management decisions by identifying cost-saving opportunities and improving the accuracy of financial forecasting, without compromising quality or design intent.

Key Responsibilities



Cost Estimation & Analysis



Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns for materials, labor, and equipment. Obtain, compare, and evaluate quotes from trades and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and scope accuracy. Develop and maintain an internal cost database and standardized unit pricing models. Prepare preliminary and final budgets for new builds and custom home projects. Identify cost variances and recommend adjustments to maintain profitability targets.

Auditing & Financial Control



Audit trade and supplier invoices against contracts, purchase orders, and site progress reports to ensure accuracy and prevent overbilling. Support procurement and contract administration with accurate scope definitions and documentation. Provide cost reports, variance analyses, and cost-to-complete summaries for management review. Work collaboratively with accounting and project management teams to streamline internal cost tracking processes.

Collaboration



Work closely with site supervisors, designers, and trades to align scope, cost, and quality expectations. Participate in design and pre-construction meetings to provide input on pricing, material selections, and cost efficiencies. Build and maintain strong relationships with trades and suppliers to ensure reliable and consistent pricing.

Qualifications & Experience



1-3 years experience as a Construction Estimator in residential or light commercial new builds. Strong proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Buildertrend, Excel, Google Docs) Knowledge of local building codes, materials, and trade practices. Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills.

Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
