Job Summary



The Construction Assistant will support the Site Supervisor in managing day-to-day construction activities, ensuring smooth project execution. Responsibilities include performing general labour tasks, assisting with city permit applications, tracking project timelines, and coordinating with subcontractors. This role is essential for maintaining site organization, meeting deadlines, and ensuring compliance with city regulations.

Key Responsibilities



1.

Construction Site Support



Assist in daily construction tasks. Perform light labour work, including material handling, site cleanup, and equipment setup. Support subcontractors by preparing materials and assisting with basic installation work. Help organize tools, maintain inventory, and ensure proper storage.

2. City Permit Application & Compliance



Assist in applying for building permits and ensuring all required documentation is submitted. Follow up with the City of Saskatoon regarding permit approvals and inspections. Ensure all construction work adheres to local building codes and safety regulations.

3. Timeline Tracking & Project Coordination



Monitor and update project timelines to keep construction on schedule. Work closely with Site Supervisor to ensure task sequencing and deadlines are met. Assist in tracking work progress, documenting site activities, and reporting delays.

4. Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination



Assist in coordinating subcontractor scheduling and deliveries. Communicate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials. Follow up on any material shortages, replacements, or delays.

5. Safety & Compliance



Ensure the site remains organized and follows safety protocols. Assist in conducting safety checks and equipment inspections. Report any safety hazards or violations to the Site Supervisor.

Qualifications & Skills



Civil engineering or any construction related discipline. Prior experience in construction, general labour, or a related field is preferred. Ability to read drawings. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to handle physical labour tasks and lift moderate loads. Basic knowledge of construction processes, permits, and safety regulations. Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, and tracking software. Ability to communicate effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, and city officials. A valid driver's license is required. Equipment operating license is a plus.

Work Environment



Construction site-based role, with occasional office tasks. Requires working outdoors in various weather conditions.
