Overview:



The Construction Assistant Safety Representative supports the Safety Manager in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment across all construction sites. This role assists in implementing safety programs, conducting inspections, and ensuring all workers adhere to company and WorkSafeBC safety standards. Key Responsibilities



1. Support the Safety Manager



Assist in implementing and maintaining the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Program. Help coordinate safety meetings, training sessions, and site orientations. Maintain up-to-date safety documentation and records. Provide administrative and logistical support to the Safety Manager for audits, inspections, and reporting.

2. Site Inspections & Compliance



Conduct regular site walkthroughs to identify hazards or unsafe practices. Report observations to the Safety Manager and ensure corrective actions are tracked and completed. Assist in verifying compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements and internal safety policies. Ensure all workers are equipped with the appropriate PPE and understand its use.

3. Incident Reporting & Investigation



Support the Safety Manager during incident investigations. Help document findings, prepare reports, and follow up on corrective actions. Maintain incident and near-miss logs for internal tracking.

4. Training & Orientation



Assist in delivering new worker orientations and toolbox talks. Keep training records and certificates organized and current. Help ensure subcontractors meet all prequalification and safety documentation requirements.

5. Documentation & Communication



Maintain accurate and organized safety files both digitally and on-site. Assist with generating weekly safety summaries and monthly safety reports. Help communicate safety alerts, updates, and new procedures to site teams.

Qualifications & Requirements



Education:



Diploma or certificate in

Occupational Health and Safety

,

Construction Safety

, or a related field (or working toward completion).

Certifications:



OFA Level 2 or 3 First Aid, WHMIS.

Experience:



1-2 years of related experience in construction or safety coordination preferred. Recent graduates in safety programs are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge & Skills:



Familiarity with

WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation

. Strong communication and organization skills. Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to handle confidential information and work in a team-oriented environment.

Others:



Valid BC driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to job sites. Comfortable working outdoors and on active construction sites.

Working Conditions



Primarily field-based with frequent visits to active construction sites. May occasionally require evening or weekend work depending on project needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00-$32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 35 per week
