plays a crucial role in advancing and facilitating the Member of Parliament's main objectives and priorities to serve the riding of Whitby. This position involves collaboration with MP, his executive assistant, office lead and other assistants. As part of a team, the assistant contributes to effective communication, outreach efforts, casework, and strategic activities within the riding.
Duties and responsibilities
Deal with daily queries from members of the public by phone, e-mail, or in person taking appropriate initial action to resolve, document and escalate their concerns or enquiries
Liaise with various federal government departments and community organizations to assist constituents
Collaborate on all written aspects of work, such as but not limited to constituent emails, riding events, speaking notes, meeting briefings, advocacy, and announcements, the weekly newsletter, and monthly householders and advertising copy.
Occasionally staff the member at public events and announcements for communication purposes.
Work closely with the executive assistant regarding Member availability for all public requirements in the riding, along with meetings with constituents, local stakeholders, and event invites.
Identify areas where engagement can be improved.
Help maintain an ongoing list of community engagements the Member can attend
Help plan and coordinate various riding events, such as seniors meetups, town halls, budget consultations, Minister's visits, riding announcements and other constituency events.
Liaise with government services on behalf of constituents to obtain more information and follow up on available national programs as well as to seek and achieve resolution.
Ensures constituent concerns are dealt with in a sensitive, confidential, and timely manner.
Attends weekly team meetings and participates actively to present ideas

Qualifications
Must hold a BA in Communications or Politics, a diploma in Journalism or Communications/Media or be working toward one.
Equivalent previous work experience will be considered
Must possess a valid G driver's license and have access to a vehicle to attend engagements.
Remuneration
This position will work out of our constituency office in Whitby. You will work among a team of other assistants, a Parliament Hill team to support the Member of Parliament and assist the residents of Whitby.
Two professional references required.
