The Company Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the business, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This role supports the broader finance team in budgeting, auditing, financial analysis, and cash flow management.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
Full cycle accounting including A/P postings, A/R postings, bank and account reconciliations.
Inventory management.
Cash Management.
Monthly closing entries and journal entries.
Review, analyse, prepare and issue monthly financial statements.
Coordinate year-end audits & reviews with external auditors.
Ad hoc projects where applicable.
Financial Reporting
Prepare internal reports for management and assist in external financial reporting.
Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities.
Ensure compliance with GAAP or IFRS as applicable.
Support the preparation of year-end audit files and liaise with external auditors.
Tax & Compliance
Assist with the preparation of corporate tax filings, HST/GST returns, and other government remittances.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
Provide variance analysis and financial insights to management.
Inventory & Cost Accounting
Support inventory accounting and costing processes.
Assist with inventory valuations and cycle counts.
ERP & Systems
Maintain and optimize use of accounting software/ERP systems.
Support data integrity and system upgrades or transitions.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
CPA designation (completed or in progress) is preferred
Strong attention to detail, sense of urgency, problem solver, and accountability.
Outstanding communication skills.
Experience
5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or manufacturing environment
Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
Experience with accounting software e.g., QuickBooks, ADP
Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
Skills
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks and financial analysis
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Working Conditions
Office-based, with occasional interaction with other departments (e.g., operations, sales, production)
May require occasional overtime during peak reporting periods
