The Community Wellness Worker is a positive lifestyle support worker who works with clients who are experiencing drug or alcohol problem, or other mental health issues requiring support or treatment. The worker assists community members to pursue counseling or treatment, and helps with referrals to other health professionals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serve as a role model by practicing personal wellness plan
Assess client needs and why they are seeking assistance and services
Introduce new programs to drugs and alcohol abuse, such as support circles, Al-anon, A.A., N.A., sponsorships, etc.
Collaborate and network with other departments and community organizations
Develop and Implement wellness programs
Document and maintain cases thoroughly in confidential files
Write quarterly, annual reports and monthly newsletter articles
Provide one to one, family and group support meetings whenever necessary and refer clients to other appropriate professionals
Allow for follow up programs for clients returning from treatment
Develop and provide substance abuse information services (Literature, workshops, videos, internet)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Counseling related education preferred but not mandatory.
Able to work as part of a team as well as able to work independently.
Able to work flexible hours.
Strong cultural sensitivity and understanding.
Criminal Record Check.
Tsilhqot'in language is considered an asset.
Drivers License considered an asset.
Having own vehicle considered an asset.
