Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated
Community Support Worker
to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential assistance to an individual within their own home and community. Your primary focus will be on enhancing the quality of life for a man with diverse abilities by fostering independence, dignity, and meaningful connections.

Schedule:
11 hours a week:
-Tuesday: 9:00am to 11:00am
- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 9:00am to 12:00pm
Scheduled subject to change.
Work Environment:
The Community Support Worker will support the individual with , maintaining relationships, attending appointments, completing personal chores and preparing meals.
Vehicle Use:
The Community Support Worker will use their personal vehicle to transport the person served and will be reimbursed $0.61/km for using their personal vehicle.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
De-escalating crisis situations with patience and empathy
Setting boundaries and following Behavioural Support Plans consistently
Supporting the individual with community activities such as volunteer positions, physical activity, and social outings
Encouraging participation in LGBTQ+ friendly and inclusive spaces, fostering a sense of belonging
Supporting the individual with maintaining a clean and safe home environment
Assisting with grocery shopping and meal preparation, promoting healthy choices and routines
Debriefing and providing support with conflict resolution after challenging interactions
Offering companionship and emotional support, fostering a positive and affirming environment
Establishing socially valued roles based on the individual's unique personality, interests, and competencies
Assisting the individual in developing and building authentic, unpaid friendships and social connections
Presenting the individual in a positive and respectable manner within the community
Promoting and modeling personal growth, respect, and self-esteem by serving as a consistent role model
Supporting the individual to make informed decisions and encouraging positive behaviours
Providing guidance when the individual is reactive, helping them build coping strategies and resilience
Supporting the individual with physical activity and workouts to encourage health and wellbeing

Job Requirements
:
Valid Driver's License and safe driving history.
Experience working with an individual with challenging behaviours
Previous experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities in a home care settings is preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with supported individuals and their families.
Valid First Aid Certificate Can be obtained during training period* Criminal Record Clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Act (processed by the Criminal Record Review Program once an offer of employment is accepted )
Medical clearance form completed by physician.
TB test (to be completed within probationary period).
