:POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Cultural Development, Community Programming & Events, is responsible for the development of community programming to meet the corporate objectives of the Citys Strategic Plan and the Recreation and Facilities Master Plan. Key responsibilities include facilitating programming at community centres and other priority locations, supporting related volunteer associations and working with priority groups to determine service gaps and neighbourhood programming needs.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates as a member of the Sections service delivery team to carry out the goals and objectives of the section.
  • Develops programming with a focus on priority sectors such as older adults and youth, and provides programming support to community centre board members and volunteers, while promoting self-sufficiency.
  • Identifies community and neighbourhood needs and priorities for program and service delivery through research, community consultation and trends/issues identification.
  • Acts as a resource to community centres in the planning and implementation of programs and services for the community.
  • Develops marketing strategies for community centre programming and coordinates advertising, promotions and public relations.
  • Participates on committees to develop programs, providing support and input.
  • Supervises staff including staff development, performance management/review, coaching/mentoring, health and safety, and discipline decisions.
  • Identifies and maintains a contact listing of local groups and organizations; establishes community partnerships to expand the program/service base.
  • Identifies and secures facilities for the delivery of community programming.
  • Seeks out potential funding opportunities to support programming initiatives; provides groups with assistance/support in preparing and submitting funding applications.
  • Ensures adequate volunteer opportunities are incorporated into programs and services delivered.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:
  • Degree in a human services related discipline with two years experience in community recreation programming, volunteer management, community development and/or marketing; or
  • Diploma in human services related discipline with four years experience in community recreation programming, volunteer management, community development and./or marketing; and
  • Experience in and a commitment to working with seniors, youth and volunteers.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Must possess superior analytical, multi-tasking, organizational, customer service and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective professional and working relationships with a variety of people including staff, community partners and the public
  • Proven facilitation, report writing, presentation and oral communication skills
  • Ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of internal/external customers
  • Strong research, project/time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software and the use of the Internet and e-mail
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must be able to attain and maintain a valid Standard First Aid and C.P.R. Basic Rescuer Certificate
  • Will be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
  • Must be able to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
