Reporting to the Community Services Team Leader, the Community Prevention Worker is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of culturally appropriate Community Prevention supports. The position provides Community Prevention services in one of our five (5) communities and urban areas with an emphasis on education and early intervention. The Community Prevention Worker supports communities to build their capacity to strengthen children, young people, and families within communities by supporting the planning, development, coordination, facilitation, and assessment of Community Prevention programming and services. Communities are experts of themselves, and the Community Prevention Worker exercises this expertise and aligns plans to maintain family and community responsibility by strengthening and preserving culture through prevention-focused action, education, and advocacy.

OVERVIEW OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of Community Prevention programs and services
Facilitates preventative and holistic wellness initiatives (eg. life skills workshops, parenting skills, land-based healing) and lead community engagement through events, capacity-building activities, and community-informed program development
Collaborate with community staff to design, deliver, and evaluate culturally appropriate, strengths-based educational programming and community wellness services through workshops, training and events
Support alignment of practices and programs with syilx and n?e?kepmx traditional values, protocols, and trauma-informed approaches
Actively engage and connect with Member Communities, partners, and Elders to build relationships and gather feedback
Collaborate with Resident Elders and Knowledge Keepers to ethically document and integrate traditional teachings
Ensure Resident Elders are actively engaged and involved in consultation for program development
Engage with Member Communities to identify unique cultural needs and tailor programming accordingly
Promote language revitalization by embedding n?e?kepmxcin and nsylixcen across organizational practices
Build capacity in community for culturally appropriate and strengths-based approaches through workshops and training
Create and sustain effective strategic relationships with external service providers and partner organizations
Collaborate and coordinate services with community resources to preserve family and culture
Act as a positive role model to team members, clients, and community members
Oversee monitoring and evaluation of practices to ensure compliance with SCFSS policies and cultural standards
Ensure security and confidentiality of records and data in compliance with FOIPPA and SCFSS policies
Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures
Ensure regular reporting requirements are met for Team Leader, Executive Director, and funding bodies
Support generation and maintenance of monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics and reports
Provide mentorship to new hires as requested by the Community Services Team Leader
Maintain and develop knowledge and skills through professional development and training opportunities
Develop, monitor, and update an annual Personal Development Plan and Individual Work Plan aligned with SCFSS's strategic priorities
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability to plan, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate workshops, community events and programs
Extensive experience working with local Indigenous communities and a comprehensive understanding of Indigenous cultural and traditional approaches, with the ability to prioritize these approaches over Western methodologies.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and other IT platforms for word processing, databases, reports, online communications, and spreadsheets.
Clear Criminal Record check and Ministry of Children and Family Development Prior Contact Check required before commencement of employment.
Valid Class 5 BC driver's license without restrictions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Diploma in social services, project management, education or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of three years of progressive experience in a social/community services setting
Minimum of one year of experience working with Indigenous children, young people, families, and communities
Demonstrated knowledge and professional and personal practice of n?e?kepmx and syilx traditional values, cultural practice, and protocols is an asset
