About Our Opportunity



As Community Navigator for Colchester County and Cumberland County, you are a passionate champion of Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Manager, Engagement and External Relations, you will play a key role in the attraction and retention of newcomers to Nova Scotia.
You will be accountable for helping to grow Nova Scotia\xe2\x80\x99s population to 2M by 2060, participating and developing in recruitment and retention activities, and working with a dynamic team of community navigators across the province. You will be a key member of the Attraction and Engagement Team.

Primary Accountabilities



As a Community Navigator, you are responsible to:
  • Attract, develop and cultivate relationships with newcomers interested in migrating and immigrating to Nova Scotia
  • Be a direct contact person for individuals seeking more information on working and living in our province
  • Provide timely and knowledgeable responses to inquiries
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners, such as municipal, provincial, and federal government representatives; Regional Enterprise Networks and other economic development agencies; settlement organizations; employers; post-secondary institutions; Chambers of Commerce; community organizations and other key groups in your communities
  • Represent the department on various working groups and committees at both local and provincial levels, to support program and departmental priorities
  • Prepare reports, briefing materials and other correspondence as required
  • Work with minimal supervision and demonstrate great initiative and teamwork capabilities
  • Apply legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines
  • Support the branch and the department on special projects, programs and initiatives when and where required


Qualifications and Experience



To be successful in this position, you hold a post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Public Relations, Journalism, or other related field of study. In addition, you will have a minimum of one year related work experience or an acceptable equivalent.
You also possess and demonstrate the following:
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Exceptional client service skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills to address a wide variety of client inquiries and needs
  • Superb time management skills and the ability to manage priorities with competing deadlines and in complex situations
  • Exceptional ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Exceptional ability to use sound judgement at all times, including with confidential information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Assets for this role include:
  • Language(s) in addition to English
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions



  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion
  • Travel within Nova Scotia is required


Additional Information



This is a temporary employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of November 1, 2023.
The successful candidate will be working out of the Amherst or Truro Office or Regional Enterprise Networks in those locations.

Pay Grade: PR 05 - PR 13 Salary Range: $1,782.32 - $3,001.65 Bi-Weekly
