DescriptionThe Community Ministries Worker-B position assists individuals especially children & youth who may be experiencing food insecurity. The position will work directly with school aged children ensuring food security concerns through a variety of programs such as afterschool programing, summer programs with the potential for some weekend hours. Food pickups may be required at local grocers with Good Food Box distributed to families through the Afterschool Program. The incumbent may be required to assist with coordination and implementation of the program with impact measurements reported monthly.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Accountabilities: * Use every opportunity to promote the mission by sharing the love of Christ through the program.

  • Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurately updated personal files and statistical records of enrolled children & youth.
  • Will develop the program structure, organize, and implement the \xe2\x80\x9cAfter School Program\xe2\x80\x9d and \xe2\x80\x9cFood distribution for children\xe2\x80\x9d support coordination and implementation of the \xe2\x80\x9cAfter school program\xe2\x80\x9d and \xe2\x80\x9cFood distribution for children\xe2\x80\x9d.
  • Organize the necessary materials to educate children about hunger issues and how to overcome them.
  • Assists in the organization, maintenance, and general cleanliness.
  • Draft and publish content to a variety of platforms and interact with their communities and audiences.
  • May pickup food at local grocers with Good Food Box distributed to families through the Afterschool Program.
  • May direct and supervise the volunteers who are engaging with the children\'s programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Critical Relationship Management:
  • Governance Boards and Councils: None
  • Internal: Corps Officers, staff
  • External: Schools, families, including parents & youth, community.
Managerial / Technical leadership responsibilities:
  • Reports directly to Corp Officer
  • Direct reports for this position: None.
  • Might oversee and coordinate volunteers (4-6 volunteers)
Financial and Material Management:
  • Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Minor material responsibilities (access to personal information).
  • May use Gift Cards for purchases according to existing policies and procedures.
Working Conditions:
  • 35 hours per week
  • Non-traditional work hours may be required, which may include night and occasional weekends.
  • This is on-site work.
  • Contract Position: May 2024 to June 2025 with the possibility of extension
  • The performance of the job requires the ability to lift/move 30 lbs., reach, bend, twist, and stoop frequently, work in a standing or sitting position for long periods, un-packing delivery vehicles, and computer keyboarding.
  • Meeting with the participants and other community members/partners in the community will be required.
  • Travel and some scheduled hours outside of normal working hours is associated with this position.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
  • Completion of a Community College Diploma, Social Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker or equivalent of at least one academic year.
  • Current, valid First Aid & CPR Certification or willingness to be trained.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge in Nutrition is an asset.
  • Food safe certification is an asset.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
  • A minimum of two years of experience.
Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):
  • A valid Driver\'s License and a clear Drivers Abstract
  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission, Vision, and Values of The Salvation Army
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds
  • Good computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to handle physical demands, which include lifting/carrying items up to 30 pounds.
  • Has the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • The performance of the job requires attentive listening (empathy to guests/volunteers/co-workers) and the ability to give directions.

  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
