Job Position: Community Engagement and Employment Support Facilitator
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Wage: $21.25/hour
Contract: July 21, 2025 - March 31, 2026, In-person and located in Thunder Bay
About the Role
The Community Engagement and Employment Support Facilitator will work with two employment programs, FAST and ES, to support individuals in achieving their employment goals. This role involves community outreach, employer engagement, participant support, and promoting inclusive workplace practices using a disability justice approach.
About the Programs
FAST (Focusing Access on Skills and Training)
An employment program that supports individuals aged 16+ who self-identify as a person with a disability.
Provides one-on-one assistance to help participants achieve their employment goals through pre-employment assistance, job support and short-term training.
Offers funding to individuals and employers for inclusive workplace accommodations and short-term training opportunities.
ES (Employment Support)
An employment program assisting individuals aged 16+ in meeting employment goals who self-identify as a person with a disability.
Provides up to one year of support, including pre-employment preparation, employer support, and job retention strategies.
ES focuses on transitioning to independence, supporting employers, and creating a peer-to-peer model for both participants and employers.
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach:
Promote FAST and ES programs to individuals, organizations, and employers using creative and out-of-the-box marketing approaches.
Build partnerships with community groups and employers to expand program reach.
Cold call potential employers and stakeholders to raise awareness about the programs.
Employer Engagement:
Build and nurture relationships with employers committed to creating inclusive and accessible workplaces.
Maintain a comprehensive database of employers interested in hiring and supporting program participants.
Raise awareness and provide education on disability inclusion in the workplace, promoting equitable hiring and retention practices.
Offer ongoing support and resources to employers throughout the hiring and onboarding process.
Conduct follow-ups with both employers and participants to monitor application outcomes and workplace experiences.
Participant Support:
Maintain a caseload of individuals who are working in the community.
Conduct regular check-ins with participants to support job retention and personal growth.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work collaboratively within a team setting while managing an independent caseload.
Understand and operate within the framework of non-profit work, focusing on community impact.
Required Skills
Public Speaking: Confident presenting and facilitating discussions in diverse settings.
Self-Direction: Ability to manage tasks and caseload independently while meeting deadlines.
Target-Driven: Motivated to achieve goals under tight deadlines.
Independent Living Philosophy Approach: The Independent Living approach emphasizes self-determination, peer support, and barrier-free access, ensuring that all aspects of the position empower individuals with disabilities to make their own choices and participate fully in their communities.
Cold Calling: Comfortable initiating outreach to new employers and organizations.
Creative Marketing: Ability to use innovative approaches to promote programs effectively.
Team Collaboration: Skilled in working as part of a team while managing individual responsibilities.
Non-Profit Experience: Understanding of the non-profit sector and its community-oriented focus.
