The Community Driver provides safe, scheduled transportation for seniors participating in regular scheduled outings that support the social determinants of health, including access to recreation, food programs, cultural events, and health services. Operating an LSCSS-owned vehicle (car or minivan), the driver fosters a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment for older adults while ensuring safety, punctuality, and dignity throughout the journey. The driver maintains vehicle cleanliness and basic maintenance.
Responsibilities
Drives seniors to and from scheduled activities using an LSCSS vehicle, following predetermined routes and schedules.
Operates a motor vehicle with a seating capacity of 10 or less, including vehicles modified to accommodate wheelchairs.
Assists passengers with boarding, exiting, and securing mobility aids, including operating lifts and securing wheelchairs.
Supports a positive transportation experience by engaging respectfully with clients and promoting social connection.
Conducts basic vehicle safety checks before each trip and performs routine inspections including fueling, checking belts, lights, tires, and fluid levels.
Maintains accurate trip logs and service statistics, including attendance, route notes, vehicle inspections, and incident reports.
Supports program evaluation by tracking outputs and contributing to data collection for grant reporting and service improvement.
Follows all LSCSS safety protocols, including lone worker procedures, communicable disease guidelines, and emergency response practices.
Collaborates with program staff and volunteers to coordinate transportation logistics and client needs.
Recommends vehicle and equipment repairs as needed to ensure safety and continuity of service.
Performs other related duties as assigned to support the success of the shuttle program and client well-being
Experience
Standard First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Indigenous cultural safety and humility training (or willingness to obtain)
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance is required
Minimum six (6) months of recent, related experience in community service, transportation, or senior support roles
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered
Training in trauma-informed practice, mental health awareness, or conflict resolution is an asset
Completion of Grade 12
Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record
