The Coordinator will provide, assist, and facilitate programming, services, initial advising, and orientation for TRU in the region. The programming offered by the Community Coordinator will depend upon community demand and may range from contract training to academic programming to non-credit courses and programs.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Community Coordinator will:

  • Conduct community educational and training needs assessments; maintain contact with local educators, Indigenous groups and associations, businesses and industries, agencies, community groups, government, and others to identify program and course requirements and demands.
  • Assist in identifying the need for the development of educational brokering arrangements with other institutions.
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations, industry, and government agencies to provide relevant, cost-effective training.
  • Develop proposals in all stages, including budgets, worksheets, marketing, etc.
  • Schedule courses, create course budgets, maintain financial records, purchase supplies, and forward records to the finance department.
  • Prepare contracts for the part-time instructional staff, create professional service agreements for contractors, and evaluate instructional performance for non-credit courses.
  • Ensure registration, class lists, handouts, and other required resources are in place. Input class marks and ensure that certificates are completed and distributed. Resolve client and student complaints.
  • As per TRU Marketing and Communications standards, assists in the development of marketing and advertising materials, including researching trends, community interests, and expectations, as well as proofing marketing materials.
  • Assists in recruiting instructors, scheduling courses, booking facilities/rooms, and ensuring the layout is appropriate for the course.
  • Conducts regular advertising of courses and programs via other means, i.e., newspapers, flyers, pamphlets, posters, online, social media, etc.
The successful candidate must adapt to changing situations, make quick decisions, interact with a broad cross-section of the public, understand and work within local and provincial politics, stay on task while working in isolation, and know where to locate and access information. The candidate must be a team player and contribute to the Community Education department. Occasionally, the candidate may be required to work evenings and weekends as needed. The candidate must travel between Kamloops, Barriere, Chase, and Clearwater as required.REPORTS TO

  • Two years of post-secondary education - preferably in Business or Education
  • Provincial Instructor\'s Diploma preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Significant coordination experience and project management skills
  • Knowledge of marketing and accounting
  • Culturally sensitive and inclusive
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver\'s License
