Community Bridge Support Worker - Bissell Centre



The Community Bridge program provides rapid response interventions that stop an imminent eviction and provide supports to ensure the root causes of the eviction are effectively addressed in order to prevent re-occurrence.

Duties and Responsibilities



Program Delivery



Identify and support individuals and families at-risk of homelessness because of eviction due to delinquent rents, utilities arrears, or other costs

Assist individuals to navigate and access necessary services, resources, and benefits (eg: income, housing, health care, government benefits, grants, etc.) for which they are eligible

Provide flexible one-on-one support to assess situational details, income/expenses, appropriateness of financial support, and need for additional resources

Assess prevalence of additional factors such as: mental health/addictions, income/finances, physical health, social support system, legal concerns, and housing status.

Identify areas where individuals request or would benefit from additional supports.

Develop and implement goals/objectives with program participants and provide referrals and follow up to support them

Provide individualized financial coaching and budgeting support, including assisting participants to develop realistic spending plans, strengthen financial literacy, navigate benefits or income stabilization resources, and build long-term skills for maintaining housing stability

Offer on-site, in-person support at the Service Hub to assist individuals with completing and gathering required information for Community Bridge applications, including facilitating Starting Point and Outcome Assessments

Make appropriate referrals to health and community services and provide advocacy support services with, or on behalf of, individuals as needed

Assist participants with life skill development, financial stability, and housing stability

Liaising with external groups and collaborations

General and Administrative



Maintain accurate electronic case notes, computer records, program information, and critical incident reports in a timely fashion

Maintain a current and accurate participant file for each client using Orbit

Provide latest program information & updated statistics and any other reports as required

Perform other duties as required

Qualifications



Education and Experience



Degree or Diploma in Social Science or related discipline

Minimum of one-year related employment experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



Familiarity and an understanding of Indigenous cultures & history.

Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, result oriented, good time management, strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Demonstrate a high competency in computer systems. Word, Excel, Outlook, web-based video streaming platforms, web applications including internet forms, electronic signature software, Microsoft Bookings, and database programs are all used extensively in the day-to-day work of this position.

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.

Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness, and Edmonton's urban core. As well working with high-risk populations.

Conditions of Work



Some evening and weekend work required

Operation of personal vehicle with required insurance

Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.

Training must be completed during the three months of employment. Other required training may be identified as required.
