Job Description

This position targets working with individuals who are chronically unsheltered, and those at risk of becoming homeless, will receive targeted supports that can divert them from absolute homelessness, or shelter.

Responsibilities

? Broker client with existing community services including, identification acquisition, medical attention, legal resources, and income assistance.

? Implement harm reduction strategies. Clients do not have to be clean and sober to engage in the program.

? Documenting all objective interactions with clients, whether by phone or face to face, on HIFIS.

? Ensure that all assessments and reports are completed in a timely manner before the 15th of every month

? Report directly to Team Lead

? Responsible for developing professional time management while working in the community

? To assess the housing needs of the individual or family using the appropriate assessment tool (VI-SPDAT or SPDAT)

? To divert people away from homeless services as appropriate by referring to internal and external supports

? To facilitate admission to the emergency housing program as appropriate

? To support the individual in connecting to natural supports, internal supports within the Social Services & Departments; Housing Department or external supports within the community to divert admission to emergency housing and prevent homelessness

? To facilitate admission to the emergency housing program when diversion from homelessness is not possible

? To maintain appropriate client records and service delivery data in the relevant departmental software program (e.g. HIFIS)

? Other administrative tasks as assigned and related to the delivery of the Homelessness Prevention Services program

Skills and Abilities:

1. Demonstrates knowledge/familiarity with related resources such as mental health

system, medical system and related agencies, income support system and related

agencies and addiction support organizations.

2. Demonstrates suitability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in diverse environments.

3. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

4. Demonstrates physical/mental ability to perform the duties of the job.

5. Demonstrates ability to deal with others effectively

6. Demonstrates ability to organize work and time management skills

7. Demonstrates ability to understand and maintain client/worker boundaries.

Qualifications:

? B.A./B.S.W./B.Ed or equivalent; or 3 - 5 years minimum of relevant experience.

? Enthusiasm for being part of the solution to end homelessness in Fredericton.

? Passion for working with marginalized individuals; excited about being a catalyst of change in people's lives.

? Must have the ability to empathize with those experiencing significant barriers in their lives. A significant understanding of the issues of poverty is essential.

? Understanding of and passion for housing first programs and policies.

? Able to show a demonstrated commitment to the agency's mission and values, policies and guidelines.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $24.00 per hour

Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
Experience:

equivalent: 3 years (preferred)
