April 2023 Position Title: Communications Specialist Duration: Full Time Reports to: Creative Director About Earth Rangers: Environmental education at a young age plays a critical role in influencing lifelong attitudes towards our natural world. But we can\xe2\x80\x99t just equip children with knowledge\xe2\x80\x94to create long term behavioural change, we must empower them with the ability to act on that knowledge. Preparing the next generation to be conservationists is some of the most important work that any of us can do, and the time to do it is now. Earth Rangers is the kids\xe2\x80\x99 conservation organization, committed to instilling environmental knowledge, positivity, and the confidence to take action in children. We do this through a suite of programming that children can participate in at school, at home, and in their communities. All of these programs are educational and engaging\xe2\x80\x94but more importantly, they show children that it\xe2\x80\x99s not too late to help the planet, and the things we do today will matter tomorrow. Founded as a small community organization in 2004, Earth Rangers has grown to have more than 350,000 members and alumni across the United States and Canada. These kids take action year-round to reduce waste and energy use, raise awareness and funds for at-risk species and habitats, and improve the environmental footprint of their homes, schools, and communities. Job Summary: Earth Rangers is seeking a Communications Specialist to manage and execute ongoing communications with our stakeholders through social media, e-mail, and earthrangers.com. By developing a compelling voice and perspective that is in line with our mission and brand, the Communications Specialist will build community through various platforms, increasing Earth Rangers\xe2\x80\x99 reach and engagement. The position will work closely with the fundraising team to ensure fulfillment of sponsorship deliverables and get to know the needs and interests of our funders and partners so as to create content that is relevant, compelling and informative. The position will also support the kids\xe2\x80\x99 content team with editing and occasional content creation. The Communications Specialist will manage the relationships with our Wildlife Adoption Partners\xe2\x80\x94young scientists undertaking conservation project in the field. Our partners provide regular project updates, field photos/videos, and other compelling content which is utilized to engage our audience through our various communications channels. You will be successful in this role if: \xc2\xb7 You are passionate about social media, have in-depth knowledge of all major platforms, and keep up with major trends, including changes to algorithms, tracking tools, influencers, etc. \xc2\xb7 You are a strong writer who is able to create meaningful content that resonates with our audience and results in engagement. \xc2\xb7 You are creative, enthusiastic, and an authentic communicator and community builder. \xc2\xb7 You work well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment that respects different points of views and encourages healthy debate. Responsibilities \xc2\xb7 Manage all Earth Rangers social media channels, ensuring content is curated for each platform and its audiences. This include: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn. \xc2\xb7 Build community by having meaningful conversations through comments and DMs, and collaborating with the customer service team on relevant requests that come through social media channels. \xc2\xb7 Establish a consistent and unique tone for Earth Rangers\xe2\x80\x99 social media content. \xc2\xb7 Identify impactful and creative ways for our brand to leverage online trends. \xc2\xb7 Lead the development and distribution of e-mails, including content planning, copywriting, and working directly with the design team on production and distribution. \xc2\xb7 Ensure the homepage and news sections of Earthrangers.com are up to date. \xc2\xb7 Manage a content calendar in consultation with the programs and fundraising teams, ensuring all requirements are met on time. \xc2\xb7 Work with the fundraising team to ensure proper sponsor recognition on all relevant content. \xc2\xb7 Create and edit original copy that is accurate, well-researched, and reflects our brand and mission. \xc2\xb7 Work with designers to create assets for use on social media and other content. \xc2\xb7 Analyze and assess the performance of social media and e-mail and compare with best practices and industry standards. \xc2\xb7 Create and present clear and detailed reports on the performance of social media and e-mail. \xc2\xb7 Ensure compliance with child privacy laws and Earth Rangers\xe2\x80\x99 data and privacy policies. Qualifications and Attributes

  • University degree or college diploma in communications or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in communications, online community building and/or content development
  • Exceptional creative writing skills
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in social media
  • Highly collaborative and a multitasker
  • Working knowledge of Hootsuite or other social media scheduling and monitoring tools
  • Understanding of social analytics
  • French language an asset
  • Knowledge of current environmental issues an asset
