Position Summary
AGE-WELL (http://www.agewell-nce.ca) is a pan-Canadian network of industry, non-profit organizations, government, care providers, end-users, and academic partners working together to drive innovation and create technologies and services that benefit older adults. Its mission is to harness and build upon the potential of emerging and advanced technologies in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), e-health, and mobile technologies to stimulate technological, social, and policy innovation.
We are seeking an experienced Communications Specialist who is passionate about developing and sharing compelling and high-quality content on a full-time basis. Reporting to the senior communications lead for AGE-WELL, the selected candidate will contribute to and execute strategic communications plans that support AGE-WELL?s mission, vision, and values.
This is a virtual first role. The AGE-WELL Network Management Office is based in Toronto, Ontario hosted by University Health Network. The successful candidate will be required to travel to research and education program events periodically.
Duties
Creates high-quality communications and media content for a variety of internal and external initiatives, including all common social media platforms.
Develops and maintains a social media content calendar.
Builds user engagement on official accounts, and monitoring presence across social media channels.
Develops and deploys e-newsletters and other web-based content.
Assists with the preparation of web story features, profiles, and media releases as required.
Coordinates the development of and/or preparing promotional materials such as brochures, infographics, info sheets, and other knowledge products.
Maintains and updates network websites and webpages including special event sites and apps as required.
Assumes virtual event platform responsibilities including knowledge of features and functionality (e.g., chat, polls, Q&A) for virtual event delivery and reporting (zoom, and/or social lives), including development of speaker decks and scripts.
Supports the general communications needs of the team.
Writing will be a key activity in this role as will building and maintaining relationships across the AGE-WELL network. The incumbent must combine sound judgment, exceptional interpersonal and communications skills, strong project management skills, and attention to detail.
Qualifications
At minimum a Bachelor?s degree in communications, public relations, business/media or a related field; or a bachelor?s degree plus a communications-related certificate.
At minimum four (4) years relevant work experience and two (2) years relevant experience developing and implementing social media plans, preferably in a post-secondary or non-profit environment. Experience in health or research communications is an asset.
English/French bilingualism an asset.
Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, newsletters, forms/templates, webpages webinars, etc.).
Exceptional writing, editing, spelling, and grammatical skills, and an ability to easily change writing styles and alter and repurpose text to fit the audience and voice of the intended communication, strong attention to detail and accuracy, with an understanding of the repercussions of errors on the reputation and credibility of AGE-WELL.
Proven digital content strategy, content marketing and editing experience, writing for the web, and web content strategy development.
Demonstrated experience creating & publishing content on social platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Hootsuite).
Proficiency in Mailchimp, Canva, and WordPress (for editing and updating newsletters, websites and other products).
Good judgment and editorial sensibility.
Flexibility and ability to juggle many projects and priorities simultaneously.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint in particular). Detail and task-oriented, with strong research and organizational skills.
Reliable, independent and able to work flexible hours. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work well under pressure with fast turnaround times, including occasional evenings or weekends where business need exists.
