ABOUT THE POSITION

We are currently looking for one (1) Communications Specialist for a permanent full time role.

The Communications Specialist (Internal) supports the development and implementation of SkilledTradesBC's communications plans, projects and initiatives, with a focus on internal communications and employee engagement.

With an understanding of the organization's strategic priorities and operating environment, the Specialist provides communications and engagement services to enable organizational performance, support change management and enhance employee experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

Internal Communications and Engagement

Supports the strategy set by department leaders by developing and implementing strategic communications plans and engagement activities for organizational initiatives, change management and employee engagement Plans, writes and edits content for internal platforms, such as the intranet, announcements and leadership messages Plans and implements internal events such as staff townhalls and leadership updates, including content development, logistics coordination and post-event communications Manages the internal communications calendar and monitors and analyzes engagement metrics to provide strategic recommendations

Marketing and Communications

Supports the strategy set by department leaders by developing and implementing strategic communications plans and campaigns Develops objectives and metrics to track success/key performance indicators of campaigns with support from department leaders Acts as the file lead and project manager for major marketing and communications initiatives Writes and edits communications materials such as media releases, newsletters, speeches, video scripts, briefing documents, presentations and Q&As, etc. Supports media relations activities, including drafting key messages and coordinating responses as needed

Partnership and Program Management

Develops key relationships with other departments, provides recommendations for communications and engagement tactics to support business objectives Monitors and understands emerging issues to inform communications and engagement tactics Develops and coordinates organizational programs and in-person/virtual events Manages supplier/contractor relationships

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Post-secondary degree or education in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred Additional training or certification in Marketing, communications, public relations and/or journalism is considered an asset 5+ years relevant, recent professional experience in related field is required Demonstrated ability to build relationships in complex and diverse multi-stakeholder environments Understanding of marketing, communications principles, strategies and techniques Development, implementation and evaluation of strategic marketing and communications plans to support business objectives Development of compelling, accessible copy and supporting communications and engagement collateral Strong organizational skills with the ability to research, prioritize and coordinate projects or initiatives Experience in planning and coordination of meetings, events to advance engagement with organizational initiatives Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner while displaying a high degree of judgement and discretion Proficiency in digital communications strategy and channel management including media relations Understanding of government/public sector communications and indigenous culture competency is considered an asset Proficiency in Microsoft 365 with working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant communications and engagement tools and technology Travel and work outside regular business hours may be required Knowledge of B.C.'s trades training and apprenticeship system is considered an asset

COMPENSATION

Salary Band D:

$72,898 - $98,628
