POSITION SUMMARY
The CHEO Foundation existed before CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and Roger Neilson House.
Community volunteers recognized the need for a children's hospital in our region to serve families. Since that beginning, we have remained the link between these respected institutions and the generous community that financially sustains them.
The purpose of the CHEO Foundation is to turn donations of money, time and kindness in all its forms into the medical treatment, cutting-edge research, and the compassionate care that children, youth and families need and deserve.
Because of your philanthropy, fundraising events, and generous support of our work, the CHEO Foundation celebrates your community spirit and your love for young people. This makes CHEO strong today and ready for tomorrow.
Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Specialist will assist with the development and execution of all communications activity related to the Foundation. Responsibilities will include writing and editing a wide variety of materials, a strong interest in report writing, keenly interested in making sure all materials are on brand, not shy to tackle medical or research terminology, assisting with the execution of all communication and promotional materials.
About you:
You are someone that wants to work for a great cause and feels that our community is enormously generous. You are interested in special events communications, email marketing, report writing and happy to lend your skills to areas that need assistance.
You are fluent in both English and French. You love to write for various audiences and no topic is too complex for you to research and adapt for the general public to digest and understand. You understand that our generous community is why CHEO is able to attract the very best professionals, all sharing in the mission to help children, youth and their families live their best lives. You will help to spread the word about what we do across multiple platforms.
You are skilled at communicating special events to internal and external audiences and all that that entails -posting to the CHEO Foundation website, assisting the special events team in brainstorming sessions, driving the external strategy for the communications team, and evaluating ways to make improvements. You have an outgoing personality and enjoy interviewing CHEO patients, doctors, nurses, staff members, sponsors and donors for the purpose of writing powerful stories highlighting CHEO care and donor impact. You enjoy collaboration and working with colleagues towards common goals.
You have a passion for improving the lives of children and youth by communicating the CHEO message. Creativity and proactive behaviour will also be important elements of the position as you gain knowledge about CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute, Roger Neilson House and more. Flexibility in work and home life will help you meet the demands of this wonderfully rewarding opportunity to help CHEO care for children and youth in communities throughout eastern Ontario, western Quebec, northern Ontario and Nunavut.
Being a team player who can get along well with coworkers, hospital staff, donors and other stakeholders will be important when working in this fast-paced environment. You are not daunted by a day that will involve juggling multiple projects with priorities shifting at a moment's notice.
