Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Advancement, the Communications Officer will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Faculty of Law and the University of Toronto to
support the Faculty's strategic objectives through dynamic, diverse communications channels and opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
Creating and maintaining a presence on social media platforms
Implementing digital communication plans across a broad range of marketing/communication channels
Overseeing tasks related to the production and dissemination of communications/marketing materials
Gathering relevant or newsworthy content
Writing news, feature stories, and press releases
Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming for the media
Coordinating website updates and ensuring technical issues are resolved
Liaising with the University's central communication office to pitch and share stories and with internal and external stakeholders regarding story development and cross-promotion activities.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a
related field or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience. Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience in a related role, including communications, marketing, journalism and/or public relations
Demonstrated experience in communications and outreach within a university or comparable environment
Demonstrated experience coordinating digital and print communications projects consistent with employer branding
Demonstrated experience planning and executing events from start to finish
Demonstrated experience researching, pitching, and writing stories
Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and plans
Experience implementing a digital media plan and maintaining information on digital platforms
Experience building and maintaining strategic partnerships with internal and external parties, including news reporters and media contacts
Demonstrated experience with various social media platforms, including but not limited to LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter/X, Facebook, and TikTok
Demonstrated ability to create concise, effective written content, drawing from interviews with sources as well as translation of specialized/technical materials for lay audiences
Proven design capabilities, including experience with web and graphic design software and working collaboratively with external vendors
Proficiency with Canva, Microsoft Office, WordPress, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, and Eventbrite
Skilled in working with content management systems
Superb written and oral communication skills
Excellent research, writing, editing, and digital media skills are essential
A self-starter possessing the ability to work independently in a high-profile, time-sensitive environment while balancing competing priorities
Must be creative, resourceful, and solutions-oriented
Willingness to develop and share technological expertise
Assets (Nonessential):
Experience in Adobe Creative Suite
Experience with trouble-shooting issues as it pertains to the back-end of websites
Experience with new and improved communications and marketing tools and trends
