The Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) is a progressive union representing approximately 30,000 paramedical, professional, and technical members. Our staff are committed to delivering high-quality services to our members. HSAA is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
The position
HSAA is seeking two skilled Communications Officers to join our Communications team at either of our Edmonton or Calgary offices. These temporary, full-time positions (up to twelve [12] months) report to the Manager, Communications and play a key role in delivering clear, strategic, and engaging communications to our members, media, and stakeholders.
This in-scope role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing member communications and media relations plans and programs, including responding to emerging issues. Working collaboratively across the organization, you will ensure communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with HSAA's strategic priorities. You will manage the annual communication calendar, lead content development, and oversee the approvals process to maintain consistency and high standards across all channels.
One of these positions will primarily lead HSAA's media relations efforts--preparing news releases, statements, and other materials that reflect the union's values and activities, while monitoring and analyzing media coverage to support proactive communication strategies.
One of these positions will primarily lead HSAA's member communication efforts - preparing newsletters, guiding social media and web communications, preparing well designed reports and tactfully responding to member emails.
The Communications Officers also supports executive and bargaining communications, acting as lead writers and advisors to ensure messages are clear, coordinated, and aligned with leadership direction.

You have strong project management skills, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders to deliver results under tight timelines. You understand the importance of strategy, tone, and timing in communications and take pride in delivering high-quality, meaningful content.
The successful candidate will also have:
A post-secondary degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or a related field, with at least five years of communications experience creating press releases, promotional materials, scripts, and related content. Equivalent education and work experience may be considered.
