Job Description

Wine Growers British Columbia is seeking an experienced communications professional to join our team as Contract Communications Manager. This contract role is responsible for developing, writing and distributing communications to WGBC members and interest holders, leading strategic media and public relations efforts, while supporting marketing, media, and advocacy initiatives across the organization.

Reporting to the Communications Director, this role works closely with the marketing and communications teams to ensure consistent, compelling and aligned messaging across all platforms.

This is a contract position from July 28, 2025 to September 1, 2026.

Duties and Essential Contract Functions

:



1. Strategic Industry Communications



Responsible for the deployment of WGBC interest holder communications and reporting.

Manage assigned project budgets, revenues, workback schedules and timelines.

Maintain the industry homepage at WineBC.com/Industry as a central hub for industry interest holders and member resources, including ongoing management of the member portal.

Respond to industry and member enquiries in a timely and efficient manner.

2. Writing & Editing



Be an arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging and style in writing and editing all communications material in line with the WGBC brand guidelines.

Maintain brand continuity throughout all communications.

Write and distribute fact sheets, backgrounders, media releases, advisories, and industry articles in line with the media and communications strategic plan.

Manage and update communications resource tools including, Media Kit, Wines of British Columbia Wine Ambassador Programs and Member Benefits package as required.

Develop and distribute WGBC communications such as industry updates, member bulletins, infographics, e-newsletters, quarterly and annual reports.

Manage industry social media channels (LinkedIn and X), including content creation, scheduling, engagement, and performance reporting.

3. Event Support



Coordinate and assist in execution of member meetings and events such as AGMs, Insight Conference, Swirl Around BC Wine Expo, Vintage Preview, etc.

Handle registration and promotion of events through WGBC communications channels.

Development of content and materials in support of event programming.

4. Media and Public Relations



Support strategic media and public relations efforts, including drafting media releases, developing key messages, and managing media inquiries and outreach

Coordinate media drops and maintain relationships with key media contacts, influencers, and PR partners

Plan and host media FAM tours to promote BC wine and regional storytelling

Stay up to date on evolving media and public relations trends, channels, and best practices

Oversee media monitoring and reporting in alignment with organizational metrics

Skills and Qualifications:



3-5 years' experience in a communications role.

Post-secondary degree in Communications or related field.

Proven experience in writing communications plans, media releases, articles and reports.

Proven experience in implementing and executing an annual communications plan.

Proven experience in media and public relations.

Experience in event planning and execution.

Strong writing, editing and communication skills.

Experience with online platforms such as WordPress, MailChimp, Survey Monkey, ZOOM, Meltwater, Flickr & SmugMug.

Experience with Adobe and Sales Force an asset.

Good to excellent understanding of office procedures and systems including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams).

Highly organized and efficient, able to adapt to change and manage multiple priority tasks with tight deadlines and limited supervision.

People-oriented and a team contributor with a professional demeanor.

Ability to work effectively in a remote/home office environment.

1-2 years of BC wine industry-related communications experience and asset.

Travel at the expense of Wine Growers British Columbia may be required from time to time.
