The Opportunity
Women's College Hospital Foundation (WCHF) is seeking an experienced Communications Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is looking to play a central and strategic role in a growing Marketing & Communications team, embraces health equity, and seeks to champion the voice of our organization. The candidate has experience working for a hospital or healthcare Foundation and writing fundraising- and donor-specific communications. The candidate is immensely creative, with the ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts in a multitude of ways that will excite and mobilize existing and potential audiences and donors. Shining a light on and lifting-up the work taking place at Women's College Hospital (WCH) in ways that will attract donor interest and encourage brand engagement, the candidate will have the opportunity to connect with some of Canada's leading healthcare professionals and write on subjects critical in today's health landscape. This is a unique opportunity to expand awareness and understanding of an already successful hospital brand. The role holds considerable responsibility with carriage of the written output from WCHF, and significant contributions to strategic planning. The Role
Reporting to the Director, Brand Marketing & Communications, the Communications Manager is a key member of the communications team, responsible for driving the strategic narrative for WCHF and leading the execution of written work across many communications. This role requires an aptitude for strategic and creative thinking as well as the ability to execute on a variety of concurrent projects and tasks.
We are looking for someone who has a strong autonomous work style, with the ability and instincts to provide the team with ideas about how to best enhance messaging and story, as this will ultimately amplify the impact of WCHF's voice.
Core Deliverables:
The Communications Manager is responsible for:

  • Contributing to development of WCHF materials, including:
  • Donor Proposals, Cases For Support and Impact Reports
  • Events communications (such as: speaking remarks, presentations, collateral materials)
  • Donor public campaign materials (such as: newsletters, e-blasts)
  • CEO communications (such as: op-eds, team-wide communications, speeches)
  • Organizational documents (such as: Annual Reports, Board of Director reports and memos)
  • Project managing communications materials from beginning to end; accountability of final outputs of materials.
  • Manages one direct report
  • Act as resource to colleagues across the organization.
  • Liaising with colleagues in WCHF and WCF, including medical and healthcare practitioners and patients, to understand the stories that can and should be told and proposing how best to tell them.
  • Managing critical paths to ensure clarity of drafts and deadlines.
  • Supporting team to develop templates for best-in-class, consistent, and effective donor and public communications.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Post-secondary education (4 year degree) in a related field, or comparable work experience.
  • Minimum 8-10 years' experience, including work with a hospital and/or healthcare Foundation and/or organization seeking funding from the public.
  • Demonstrable experience writing Donor Proposals, Cases For Support and Impact Reports (portfolio is preferred).
  • Understanding of healthcare sector and hospital environment is welcome.
  • Ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts in easy-to-understand and compelling ways.
  • Ability to work proactively to ensure all deadlines are met to ensure business continuity.

  • Highly organized, accurate and detail oriented.
Salary Range: $82,500 - $90,000, eligibility for merit pay and comprehensive healthcare benefits including Healthcare Ontario Pension Plan enrollment.

WCHF is a hybrid work environment. Team members are required to be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
