COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER



The Business and Education Partnership of Waterloo Region (BEP) is a charity dedicated to ensuring every young person in Waterloo Region can build their path to rewarding careers. We do that by empowering youth in grades K-12 to explore and prepare for the world of work, in partnership with their parents, educators and our current workforce. We are hiring a Communications Manager to contribute to our mission.

Key Responsibilities



Develop and implement communications strategies aligned with organizational goals Oversee content creation for various formats such as social media, websites, newsletters, reports and presentations Conduct research to stay informed about industry trends, audience preferences, and brand positioning Ensure communications material is clear, accurate, professional and consistent with the BEP's brand and messaging Ensure compliance with relevant policies relating to communications such as accessibility, privacy and protection of vulnerable persons Manage media relations, including drafting press releases, coordinating interviews, and handling inquiries Coordinate public speaking engagements and represent the organization at events or conferences Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication efforts, adjusting strategies as needed Appropriately respond and direct inquiries about BEP programs via web, phone, social media and other channels Lead coordination of the annual BEP appreciation event Support the delivery of BEP events and programs including capturing high-quality photos/ videos and interacting with youth, educators, parents/caregivers and other partners Procure marketing materials such as staff name tags, apparel and promotional items Hire and supervise contract employees, field placement students and/or independent contractors in support of communications activities

Qualifications include:



Proven experience in communications planning and content creation, normally acquired through training in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, or related fields Technical expertise with relevant software including for social media and email marketing (Mailchimp, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and Eventbrite), website content management (WordPress, Contentful), relationship management (Salesforce), and graphic design (Canva, Adobe InDesign) Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines Strong English language writing and verbal communication skills Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including youth participants, volunteers, and community partners A high degree of patience, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills Ability to travel frequently within Waterloo Region for events and meetings

Web development/design experience Personal interest in making a difference in the lives of young people Experience working in a non-profit or charity Knowledge of career development, especially relating to youth Familiarity with the Ontario K-12 education system, especially in the Region of Waterloo Existing professional network in the Region of Waterloo Experience in marketing / not-for-profit communications

Terms of Employment:



Hours of work: 35 hours/week, 8AM - 4PM or 8:30AM - 4:30PM with occasional flexibility required for early morning or evening events Expected starting compensation: $27/hour and two weeks' paid vacation during the school Winter Break and participation on our group benefits plan Work location: Some work-from-home flexibility for up to 2-3 days per week, though at times the role could require up to 5 days a week in office (currently 74-B Queen St. N, Kitchener) or attending events in the community A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is a condition of employment
