The role of Communications Manager is to develop and implement the annual communications and public relations strategy and work continuously on behalf of the organization to ensure communication on activities and outcomes to all stakeholders. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Manager is responsible for preparing and implementing communications and PR activity and materials, and managing external agencies where appropriate, to ensure all activity is completed within the strategy budgets, and accurately represents the destination and brand of Tourism Golden in accordance with the Strategic Plan and annual Marketing Plan.
The Communications Manager will monitor and evaluate the outcomes of media visits and related initiatives, supporting the Executive Director in assessing progress toward strategic goals and objectives. The role also includes cultivating relationships with traditional media outlets, journalists, and content creators through proactive outreach and by attending industry events and trade shows several times a year, ensuring alignment with Tourism Golden's target markets, audience demographics, and destination management objectives.
The role requires proven experience in public relations, managing both internal and external communications and relationships, and managing external agencies. Excellent inter-personal and written skills are a must, as is knowledge of social media platforms, and proficiency in MS Office or Google G-Suite and Drupal content management system. As in-destination hosting is a primary responsibility, the ability to credibly participate in strenuous outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, skiing or snowboarding is essential.
