KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives is seeking an individual to fill the role of Communications Lead on a full-time permanent basis (35 hours/week) in Toronto, ON. KAIROS is a small to mid-sized organization. KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives is an ecumenical movement for ecological justice and human rights. KAIROS includes three program Circles, a network of activists, and regional representatives, educators, and partners in Canada and around the world who help guide our work. Staff are located in the Toronto office and home offices across the country. (www.kairoscanada.org) The Communications Lead provides leadership in the development and implementation of effective internal and external messaging for KAIROS, that aligns with the KAIROS vision and strategic plan, with clear, succinct messaging across all platforms and audiences. They work closely with the Executive Director, Directors and the Steering Committee and handle the communication of critical strategic and emerging issues, providing advice, drafting strategy and materials on the basis of decisions made. They edit and finalize various communication pieces and deliver key communications and activities, in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, while creating a culture of teamwork, unity, collaboration, and partnership. They supervise, lead and develop a high performing, engaged, team by providing direction, coaching, and mentoring. The main areas of focus are: 1. Communications Strategies 2. Leadership 3. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in journalism, English communication, marketing or a related field;
  • 3-5 years of experience writing in a corporate or major not-for-profit environment and supervising and managing a staff team;
  • A seasoned journalist/writer/editor, a strategic and creative thinker with strong story-telling skills;
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and succinctly with a keen eye for detail, including proofreading and editing abilities;
  • Strong executive communications experience with the ability to write and tailor content for specific audiences that demonstrates a deep understanding of messaging, positioning and stakeholder needs;
  • Highly developed communication/resource development skills with experience developing communication strategies around fundraising and campaigning;
  • Experience managing a variety of corporate communications channels including corporate intranets, mobile, and social media channels with experience managing and advising on managing social media hysteria and chaos;
  • Proactive problem-solver that is able to see connections among broad areas to identify overlaps or gaps in resource plans;
  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions autonomously, whilst remaining alert to the need to consult and update others as needed;
  • Comfort working at a fast pace with the flexibility to adapt and change directions, as required;
  • Ability to manage and mentor a staff team providing leadership, oversight and direction to staff by modeling collaboration, problem-solving, and by facilitating relationships of trust, cooperation and confidence;
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to effectively plan and manage work, and respond to conflicting demands on an urgent and ad-hoc basis;
  • Effective priority setting, time and project management skills to orchestrate multiple communication pieces at once, using resources effectively and efficiently to accomplish a goal;
  • Strong computer skills in the use of various software applications - Office 365, Dynamics, SharePoint, One Drive, Teams, Zoom, and other social media and online platforms;
  • Predisposition to listen and model openness to other ideas; A proactive mindset with the ability to identify and investigate administrative issues and provide effective, timely insights and/or solutions;
  • Fearless when embracing technology: comfortable learning new platforms to enhance organization-wide communication;
  • Professional journalist experience and French communication skills are assets.

COMPENSATION: The annual salary for the Communications Lead position is $80,083.13. Pension and group benefit plans coverage, and annual vacation round out this compensation package. WORKING CONDITIONS: KAIROS has adopted a hybrid workplace model, providing flexibility for this position. This position will work both remotely from home office and have in-working days in the office in Toronto. Sitting and viewing a computer screen for long periods, keyboarding/using voice recognition software, intermittent physical activity including sitting, standing and being on the phone for long periods of time will be required.
